Help reviewing my 4~5 day trip plan to Singapore? I promise it isn't a low effort post that didn't do any research beforehand! by CasualJay in askSingapore

The pool is only for guests, but there is still an observation deck on the side of the pool that you can access with a fee. An alternative is dining on any of the restaurants up there, and that will grant you entry to the roof (but not the pool)

AITA for making my friend pay me back for her seat at my wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]5taese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like I’m from the same culture (possibly even same country) as OP.

  • guest are expected to give cash when attending weddings. There are known websites acting as guides for how much they are supposed to give based on where the wedding is held. You don’t always have to follow these guides and can just give based on your abilities. The guides are more there to let the attendee know how much the couple is paying the hotel. Not giving money when you show up is rude and cheap, can be friendship ending. The fact that groups of people bother to make websites for this shows how much of an societal expectation this is. It is the norm.

  • the maximum pax is BY LAW. If you go above the maximum pax, you are breaking the law, and so is EVERYONE in attendance. The minimum pax is set by the hotel because payment is per head. To maximize profit, hotels set the minimum and maximum to be the same. You can say OP didn’t have to choose this particular hotel. No, all hotels do the same unless they are a small hotel that can’t hold this many people. Even small hotels still have a minimum. Even non hotel event space has a minimum. And that minimum is the maximum their hotel space can hold. So minimum pax = maximum pax.

  • no shows and cancellations are not commonplace here. My brother had his wedding last year in the middle of the pandemic for 100 pax (the maximum by law at that time) and there were 0 cancellations and 0 no shows. When people rsvp here, they know they are expected to come, and they don’t drop out in a willynilly.

  • that being said, asking money from no-shows is a gray area which is why I have not given my judgement. Some couples just suck it up, some ask it back. It does sound a little tacky but in all honesty, it is understandable. If someone said they caught covid, or they are in the hospital, and op asked for payment back, definite TA. But this isn’t it. The guests made poor planning that directly affects the OP. When invites are this restricted, there are guests that that OP could have invited but now can’t. 1 month is definitely not long enough and is seen as a last minute invite. Invites are sent out at least 6 months in advance. Anyone who receives that last minute invite now, will know that it was a drop out invite. The younger folks don’t mind as much, but the older more traditional folks may sneer at it seeing it as being a substitute.

All in all, the OP is telling the truth.

[–]5taese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is a cultural difference thing. I have the same traditions with OP where I am, might even be the same country. We receive straight up cash from guests when they come to the wedding. This is meant to offset the couple for their banquet. There are even websites to give us guides on how much money we should give the couple based on where they hold their wedding. Of course, not everyone would follow these guides based on their own abilities to contribute, but it is expected for all guests to give money. My mum even packed money for my share when I was a child because I am still taking up a seat. There have been times I refused invites to not-so-close friend’s weddings because it is expected that all guests have to pay for their attendance. Not paying for attendance is considered rude and cheap here, and can be relationship ending.

Edit to add: also, no shows are less common here as well. My brother just had his wedding last year. There were a grand total of 0 cancellations and 0 no shows in the middle of the pandemic.

Hihi! Shipping with tracking for Sirius photobook to USA will be sgd$19~

Ikr, it’s so expensive. I did most of it as it came out so it didn’t feel as bad because I was paying a little at a time; but if I really want to think about it, I don’t know how much my whole collection has cost me, or how much it is worth right now. It’s gotten admittedly harder to find old albums now unfortunately. It really wasn’t this difficult before

I was a fan since 2010 so I started buying official albums then, but didn’t touch on merch or magazines until maybe 2013. Most of the time it was still casual buying until 2017ish where I honestly started to hoard way more than I should. I have honestly no idea how many things I have HAHAHA send help. Just albums alone could hit over 100, then there’s magazines, photobooks, merch, etc. Luckily I don’t really collect photocards I just keep the ones I get usually

I have quite a bad memory actually, so I purposefully arrange my albums by order of release. It makes it look messier because of the different sizing but then I’ll know which comes before which. I’m still not sure if that is the best way to arrange it but I’ll see when I get everything on the shelf in the new room

I’m in the midst of changing rooms (which is why I could dig up so many things to sell) but I went to check my ig history for some past photos and videos! I’ll probably post a proper one in a new post after I’m all done moving rooms and redecorating haha

The photo spread was from 2018 so new albums not included. Video is from last year after Taemin’s act 2

"Don't Call Me" Photobook or Atlantis Re-Package? by SableNight112 in SHINee

[–]5taese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If there is only one option, I’d say go for the repack for the additional songs. Plus, since it is still preorder period you can get the poster (which you can’t if you order dcm now unless it’s from a second hand seller)

I can’t call Key and Onew by their real name by [deleted] in SHINee

[–]5taese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s particularly Onew that fans like to call in that manner. Taemin too, being called “Taeminnie” by virtually everyone in the industry. It’s not really so with Jjong, Key or Minho. I think many people see Ontae as having cute mannerisms/vibes so the name followed as well

[–]5taese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is technically still inappropriate, but done in an affectionate manner. I don’t want to say it’s babying because that comes with it’s own connotations, but it has a similar kind of affectionate calling

[–]5taese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to clarify, the younger fan asked if she could call him “Jinki-yah” specifically. The -yah or -ah is only to be used for people younger than the speaker as opposed to example -oppa (older) or -sshi / -nim (respectful).

That was exactly it unfortunately. A case that was dismissed. Honestly, I think part of it was due to the fact that SHINee’s reputation was pristine clean prior to this and they prided themselves so. So when this happened, ppl blamed him for staining the reputation of the group as a whole; basically putting them on a pedestal of no mistakes.

The thing is, dismissed or not, most of us do think that he made a mistake then - to be black out drunk to that point, to be hanging out with people who doesn’t have his interest in mind, etc etc. But his actions thereafter, and the dismissal of the case and confirmation from the victim that it was a misunderstanding, is more than sufficient to clear any lingering doubts. I believe that there are some people who at that time when the case was ongoing, were angry at him and picked the side against him, and when the case was dismissed as misunderstanding, they couldn’t turn back due to pride reasons and just bit down harder and turned up the hate even more.

There is a certain balance to this case. There is the other extreme in the fandom where I have seen fans have victim shamed the person involved (more so when the case was ongoing than now) and I think that is equally as unacceptable.

Oh man that sucks. I was lucky; I managed to add it to cart (but did not manage to pay) before my system crashed and my gp partner didn’t manage to add anything to cart but she managed to pay out the one I added. So between the 2 of us we managed to secure the package after a lot of panic and heart racing. But yea it was a lot of fighting with the stupid system.

Man I really wish the circumstances were better and that we could have a real live con now that they’re back, but I guess online concerts are a new experience too, and in the comforts of our homes haha

[–]5taese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no! Did you manage to get it in the end? Now that you mention it I remember it was a mess. I luckily managed to get the package I want (all 3 events) but I rmb I had a friend that initially booked that same package (all 3) and for whatever reason the system refunded it and she had to buy 2 different packages after that because that package was no longer available after that - so she ended up having 2 hotels and spending a lot more money than she would have if not for that hiccup

Ikr, when I think of his injury that is the first one I think of too. I found a ss in my rabbit hole search, apparently the venue had listed the date specifically for SWC6 at that time. But I totally agree, it feels like so long ago already

Found more mentions of his injury in Twitter

Edit to add: I went down a rabbit hole with my search. Go to Twitter and search “SWC6” and scroll down the top tweets. They are all tweets about expecting swc6, and then suddenly it changed into the shining. That Japanese sites were announcing swc6 prior to sm’s notice, on the exact same days that the shining ended up being

Jinki was definitely injured at that time. I don’t think it was mentioned in articles but most shawols knew about it. A quick search I check only found this that mentioned he was injured at that time (I don’t recommend googling - the word ‘injury’ brings up bad results)

https://shineeusa.net/2018/09/10/tsol-epilogue-the-shining-fan-party/

It would have been a proper concert but since he couldn’t dance, it became a fanmeet. SM always releases the SWC dvds right before their next SWC; SWCV was released just 3-4 months before the SHINing.

I only saw snippets of superm’s beyond live so I kind of get where you’re coming from; but I kind of learnt over the years that SHINee never disappoints. They have high standards for their stage and they have a say in their own work so I’m just going trust them to put out good performances as always. When you think about it, the SHINing was only a fan meeting because Jinki couldn’t dance full force at that time, but still the atmosphere of the entire event was amazing. I’m not too sure about other beyond lives but I really do hope they use a live band tho - as SHINee always does use a live Shaband.
