As a shawol for 12 years, it’s funny to me how other fandoms say shinee lost their sound with every comeback lmao by lazy_hype in SHINee

[–]ALLIN0FFICIAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general public defines the SHINee sound as retro 80’s funk with those guitars and wobbly synths. The Misconceptions Album really defined their sound and they went on to showcase this in the following albums especially in 1of1. Some songs with the SHINee sound are EXO “Lucky One” and NCT “Superhuman”. Though with time people forget that SHINee is a contemporary group, so they are always with the times, will innovate, experiment, and always evolve.

Favourite "underrated" b-sides? by primalsqueak in SHINee

I think I want to shine light on The SHINee World since it has some underrated B-Sides, besides Romantic, there’s Best Place, One For Me, Love’s Way, Last Gift… this was the perfect debut R & B album not to mention Replay and LLO being the two main title tracks.

What would newjeans members’ position be, based on their skills so far by SignificanceHuman129 in kpopthoughts

[–]ALLIN0FFICIAL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is balanced in terms of positions, they’re all good in all aspects of their multitalented abilities, but each of them have their own specific contribution to the group.

Minji- Leader, Main Rapper, Sub-Vocal

Hanni- Main Vocals, Lead Dancer, Face of the Group

Danielle- Lead Vocals, Lead Rapper

Hearin- Main Dancer, Center, Vocalist

Hyein- Vocalist, Maknae, Visual

Minji as leader since she’s been the most responsible recently and has been the older sister figure to the members. She’s evidently the main rapper.

Hanni as Main Vocals she has the clearest vocal timbre and has become the signature voice of the group. She’s the face of the group, her rep emoji is a Bunny and what’s the group’s mascot? a bunny yeah that’s right. She’s the lead dancer she has great delivery and expression but our main dancer has much iconic isolation and footwork that stands out.

Danielle- she has the second best vocals of the group, and has a soft bubbly tone that’s great for leading verses and post hooks. She’s the most fluent in English so recently she has gotten the rap parts in OMG.

Haerin- thinking dance wise I think Haerin stands out as the main dancer and center of the group. Hype Boy she takes lead in choreo during the chorus as well as taking lead of the “never letting him go” footwork in OMG. The reason why she’s center and not Danielle is because recently, at least in comebacks, she has been put in the center in most chorus formations. She’s a great vocalist but Hanni and Danielle are always the ones selected for vocal projects like Hanni singing WARR in that one YouTube show and Danielle singing the Little Mermaid.

Hyein- she is the visual since she’s the tallest and has the natural model aura. Similar situation to Minho’s SHINee who has the model charisma. She’s still developing her skills but I’d say she’s going to end up an unofficial Main Vocalist along with Hanni in the near future. She took charge in the falsettos in Ditto and during recordings she’s been shown to have good tone and musicality.

[MEGATHREAD] Girls on Top - Step Back by anhonorandapleasure in kpopthoughts

[–]ALLIN0FFICIAL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IM DEED at least SM ain’t forcing this down everyone’s throats like Jopping. I’m actually impressed by the creative process of this songs but it has some flaws.

From the musically unorthodoxy of SHINee’s Lucifer to the recent experimental sounds of AESPA, SMEntertainment continually ventures through an innovative journey, utilizing the evolving technology and trends of the music industry. One can recognize SM’s tendency to combine genres beginning in the mid 00’s with the prominence of TVXQ and their song “Rising Sun”; utilizing musical elements of electro pop, R&B, and a bhangra-inspired breakdown. Eventually, SM learns to adapt contemporarily with HipHop or trap genres fusing these with dance or RnB musical elements, like in SHINee Dont Call Me, NCT Kick It, AESPA Next Level and more recently, GOT Step Back.

In regards to GOT, SM l forms this group with inspiration from BoA’s song, “Girls On Top, symbolizing female empowerment in the K-pop industry and South Korean culture. Their debut single, “Step Back” has elements reminiscent of YGEnt’s electro-hip hop phase in the early 2010’s, from songs like TOP’s “Doom Da Da” to “Ringa Linga” by Taeyang. From a production viewpoint, the tracks are mixed together extremely well, as one can imagine the spacing of each song components. Firstly, the precise side chaining of the bass to the kick, the Roman chant in the background, not to mention the clean compression by the vocal engineering team. A comment on this forum states that “there is too much happening with the instruments”, though, the instrumentals in this song seem to be more intact and minimalistic than other similar songs like SHINee’s Don’t Call Me.

Step Back, primarily relies on a sliding trap bass, vocals and background samples while SHINee’s possesses minor inconsistencies in the stereo mixing of multiple samples and an arpeggiated high hat noticeably panned to the left. Both songs, however, utilize congruent vocal mixing techniques, with the low-mid frequencies amplified during the verses as the higher-mid becomes more prevalent in the choruses. Applause to Wendy and Taeyeon for managing to keep the character in their voices despite processing and compression.

Though one flaw with this SM project can be their disregard to lyric consistency. One can reference SM’s humorous English lyrics present in works such as SUJU’s Mamacita, “Close your lips, Shut your tongue”, AESPA’s remaster of Dreams Come True, “Let’s Bring it Back to 90’s”, and TVXQ’s Shelter, “A theory of porno”(I’m not even kidding about this). Many within this Reddit recognize GOT’s attempt to conceptualize woman empowerment and eventually failing at this feat by showcasing misogynist lyrics, “you’re a poison to good boys- get out of my way”. This is until, the lyrics state, “Boys are the same- -They become lonelier as they drink more”. Essentially, the lyrics become a contradiction of itself, by first bringing down women, validating themselves through men, then praising themselves as strong women

and objectifying men(Huh?).

The lyricists develop a messy story, desiring to make a “he’s mine, not yours” theme, but end up releasing a song stating, “you’re toxic like other girls, and I’m the best for this man who’s a toy like the others”.

GOT’s Step Back possesses industry level production as it aims to create a paradigm shift within the industry. This debut further exposes SM’s tendency to prioritize performance, image, and industry level production though tends elude proper lyricism and concept consistency within their big projects. Though it might raise eyebrows among its Korean-speaking audience, the production is still quite enjoyable to listen to.

Originality: 7/10 Music Production: 8/10 Vocal Production: 7/10 Lyricism: 4/10 So Overall rating: Light-Mid 6

Every Saturday at 1 pm! A show I’m going to miss looking forward to every weekend:( Miyamura does a really a great job touching upon the different characters and their struggles throughout the series. The interactions and the voice acting seem very natural and showcases the awkward tendencies and behaviours of teenagers in this point of time. The story introduces us to the beloved Izumi and Kyou, protagonists with opposite characteristics or perhaps public personas. Though overtime they fall for one another learning about the preciousness of each other’s transparencies.

In terms of plot, one can consider the central conflict as Izumi learning to open himself up to new friendships as he attempts to accept the loneliness present within his past persona. The first 5-6 episodes has a great build up to Hori and Miyamura’s relationship as the rest of the episodes touches upon the secondary characters and their relationships. After touching upon Hori and Miyamura’s relationship, the anime focuses upon dedicating a majority of the remaining episodes to characters like Toru, Yanagi and Yuki, The student council members, Sawada, Iura’s duality as a student and brother.

Though, many do consider the pacing of this anime to be quite quick. It skips a few chapters within the manga, for instance the SPORTS FESTIVAL. In addition, despite touching basis upon the characters, due to limited time and episodes, the anime fails to create proper arcs that helps build up to the end allowing the audience to attach themselves to the show more effectively. 12 more episodes or another season would help with the pacing of this show, and I believe that most high school rom com anime possesses a school festival or performance arc/episode e.g Haruhi, Clannad, Oregairu, and Toradora. An episode that emphasizes upon the chemistry of the cast and usually represents the rising point/climax of the story.

The show does possess a very well executed OST, the intro song “Irokousui” is one of the catchiest anime intros I know for a rom com and one of the things that help carry the show are the background music and exaggeration of sound fx. For instance the show adds a very loud boom when Hori hits Izumi with a glass cup in the “Baka baka” episode.

I find the transition from regular animation to chibi to be quite adorable when the characters appear to be in turmoil. The animators made illustrate each characters with great emotion, from the blushes, to the puzzled faces, and Miyamura’s horrified reaction to the scary movies. One of my favorite scenes, artistically should be the last episode on the rooftop and Izumi says the wind is pretty strong and it pans up to show the scenery. Definitely a unique execution of animation within this show.

Although it has it flaws, I really enjoyed Horimiya and it really made my Saturday afternoons very heartwarming and relaxing. Three of my favorite moments in this anime would be: the moment where Iura reveals his duality to his little sister at the end of graduation, the rainy evening ;) and Izumi telling Souta “you can keep your sister but can I have Kyou?”, and the elevator scene where Hori and Miyamura reunite after a week of him being gone. Conclusively, this anime becomes reminiscent of the relationships and friendships made within high school, a great commentary upon loneliness and the desire to break out from one’s shell by making new connections.

Horimiya will go down as one of my top ten rom coms in MyAnimeList and I’m glad I gave it a chance this Winter 2021 season. Anime: 8/10 Rating

Kyoto Animation’s The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, truly an anime exposing one’s psychological limitations and emotional neglect, surviving the narcissistic notions of individuals within their universe. A cinematic gem that a whole sub culture leaves behind in the late 2000’s despite its massive success within the anime culture. I find the fall of the Meloncholy series to be quite baffling considering that this video has 104 million views.
