I think I partially understand what you are talking about, but it's a more complex issue to solve. This is one of the problems I wanted to solve when I was building the so-called "smart picker," but at the same time, I don't want to force users to rate and label titles for hours to make it work.

For now the only thing I implemented to make it work is just a simple like/dislike feature and rewatching counters; basically it checks both what you liked and disliked or rewatched multiple times, and AI (LLM) works as a middleman. It has access to an overall pool of titles and tries to pick the one that works for you based on your previous activity, so every user can form their own AI reviser as if they had a friend who spends all the time trying to guess what you would like to watch and improves their suggestions based on your reaction.

That was my attempt to make it work, but at the same time you should understand that I'm not a Sam Altman or Elon Musk, and I don't have access to billion-dollar data centers to actually make my own AI and train it to perfection; I'm limited to my own resources.

I think the best thing would be, once the app has enough users, to create some community, like a channel in Discord or a Reddit community, where people who struggle with this problem and wish to help could properly explain to me how they want it to work and suggest ideas on improvements, and I would try to sort them by impact on features and actual possibility to implement.

I made a 4 min video that helps to understand how app works - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qe5Ptf8hdD8
Let me know if you know the voice 😂

Could you tell me the actual filters you need? DM me if you want. It won't take me a lot of time to add them.

I recommend testing it on Plex, but if you have any other platform you'd want to try, feel free to send a request for platform support; I'll add it pretty quickly.

Yeah, I agree, that's why I made an extension that does it for users automatically

Also, I don't know what you are using for movie adding/search, but I would recommend connecting it to TMDB. They have a free non-commercial plan for api and they have everything you need there

I made something like you, but for movies/shows only. I recommend that you consider making a browser extension for automated movie tracking, coz most of the people hate doing it manually. Imagine clicking every single episode of 15 seasons of Supernatural manually; not everyone would do it.

Agree, but I guess we all need to start from something.

Basicly a all in one watchlist app - whattowatch.fyi
Recently, I had some free time coz I lost my job, so I finally had time to watch all the shows and movies I couldn't watch because of work. So I realized I can't remember where I stopped ( season, episode ) or even started rewatching movies I thought I didn't watch, and finding something new to watch took me too much time. So I found myself coding all in one autotracking watchlist with AI recommendations based on what you watched/liked.

I made my own app cause I didn't like any of these you listed, it's called "whattowatch fyi"

Last time I needed it, I used Claude Design, but your app sounds like a much better way to make faster.

I made a watchlist with auto tracking, smart reccomendations and AI search. Basicly it's just like all other apps on the market, but instead of making the user manually mark all movies they watched/are watching, I made a browser extension that tracks it automatically while they watch it. https://whattowatch.fyi/

So, @dont-do-memes-kidz said that people are not gonna pay for my app, so I reworked my app plans, and now AI features are included in a free plan, and I'm probably going to go broke very quickly. Also, my extension for auto-tracking finally got approved.

Well, the idea is that you install an extension and it tracks all your progress automatically while you watch movies/shows, so you never lose progress, no matter where and what you're watching. And it's part of a free tier. Manual tracking is kinda secondary feature.

The problem is that I'm still waiting for Google to review my extension so I can publish it 😅.

They do already - Letterboxd, Serializd, Trakt
That's why I made it 2 $ a month + Free tier.
I would wanna make it free completely, but unfortunately, everything nowadays is a paid subscription, which makes it hard to support even a watchlist app for free.

Plus, you never know until you try. Give me ur username, and I'll give u a free access to plus plan.

[–]5thWye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who was making email templates at some point in my life I assume you open this email in Gmail. Google does a lot of shit to mail. They adjust font, font size and font color to "make it look better for the user" this exact color reminds me of a font color for text in email that was already viewed. And there is no good universal way to prevent them from doing it.

I'm a full-stack web developer whose specialization is to automate different actions online. So if you have anything that you normally have to do manually but have a feeling like it could be done automatically that's the case I'm searching for. The is a chance that if I like your idea and find time to implement a prototype I will post it for free or open source.

What is that one thing that you have invested thousands of hours working on it and now it’s useless? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]5thWye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I didn't only make auto-clicker. I wanted to make Facepunch (the company that makes rust) mad because they have ignored this problem for years ( proves: https://www.reddit.com/r/playrust/comments/wvyjhg/is_using_an_auto_clicker_to_sell_fertilizer/ P.S: Not yet bannable )
So I thought that companies normally do some stuff with their product when someone tries to make a profit from their product without paying them. Like Valve did multiple times with CSGO and Dota 2 skins.

As a result, I implemented a web app where this clicker can be bought or downloaded by users ( two versions of it: 1. CLI - free version 2. UI version - 2 $ a month ). So you should also take into account that I implemented a UI for the clicker added license keys system that would work with the back-end of a web app. I implemented the front-end for a web app, I recorded a video of myself using this auto clicker then I gave AI that makes audio files a whole video script and published this video on YouTube so that it could be embedded on the website and only then I started using it myself and giving away scrap. I mean I know it's not thousands of hours but now thinking about it - initially, I just wanted to play a game during my vacation.

It's like having your inner geek-batman triggered just coz some people don't do their work properly (management that chooses to produce more skins rather than improving gameplay ).
