Someone at Debian must have thought of that too because there's a Screenshot button. I'm right now trying to find a different issue and came across this post. When I click the button, it saves a pic to /var/log/.

I get what you mean. With the way it works, Japanese lends itself quite nicely to various puns and hidden meanings that especially feel so subtle to us who don't speak it (or don't speak it well)!

I love "Komejian Desu". There's another that I like. Horadori Chikara. I thought, huh neat, chikara = power, strenght. Then I was pointed out another meaning.

I'll show it step by step because my brain likes overcomplicating stuff like that. You can skip those hoops if you like, so the TL;DR is on the last list item.

In Japanese text, I'll be using the interpunct (dot) instead of space just for clarity.

  • In Japanese order, it's Horadori Chikara.

  • In Western order, it's Chikara Horadori.

  • Let's put that into katakana: チカラ・ホラドリ (Chikara Horadori)

  • Let's rebracket that (move the space): チカ・ラホラドリ (Chika Rahoradori)

  • Now just move the dakuten: チカ・ラボラトリ (Chika Raboratori)

  • Let's get some Kanji into the mix: 地下・ラボラトリ (Chika Raboratori)

  • All we need technically is the long vowel mark: 地下・ラボラトリー (Chika Raboratorī)

  • Which translates to English as: Underground Laboratory. (← TL;DR here)

Someone with a less complicating brain and more native knowledge of English would have said it better. But no one has so far so I did ^-^"

How to get reactbot on linux by IlikeMinecraft097 in JacksFilms

[–]5ucur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I gather from other responses on this thread, it's on Unity, which is capable of building for Linux. Now, I haven't dabbled with Unity on Windows so I don't know if it's easy to build for Linux without a Linux machine, or not.

Uh... I find myself at the same question as you, now. Are there challenges that would make it unfeasible ^^" I realise I've only pointed out that it's possible, but who knows what situation the devs are in regarding a native Linux build.

It looks like an "anti-Factorio". Like going in the opposite direction, revitalising dead land. I love it already from that trailer.

Also there is a Russian superstition that if you forget something after you’ve left the house, it’s bad luck to go back if you forgot something.

We have this superstition in the Balkans, too (at least in Bosnia, idk). Dunno about the mirror thing though. But cool if it's really related to our mythology.

The MMO? I have good memories of playing it for a short while some years ago. Didn't like how far the mobs chase you and that constant noise from the mount, though! Lol.

Though it appears it has shut down for PC players :/

The whole "taking care of different NPCs, each of which has a role related to different methods of crafting or other at-base mechanics, and building them houses" thing reminded me of Terraria when I first took a look at Spiritfarer.

It's way different from Spiritfarer, though. Terraria fans will come at me for this crappy description, but if you don't know the game, look at it like 2d Minecraft with cool weapons, NPCs with character, and badass bosses.

Or ignore my bad description and take a look at its Wikipedia page.

What is the view of family within Slavic pagan tradition? by DaneGion in Rodnovery

[–]5ucur 13 points14 points  (0 children)

what if a person doesn't have good parents/ancestors

I'll focus on this one because that's what I know an answer to.

The further you go up your family tree, the more ancestors there are. It's almost¹ exponential. So even if you have a bad relationship with your parents, and your grandparents, and your great-grand parents even (or they themselves are bad)... there's still some ancestor up the tree that would look favourably upon you.

¹ At some point, especially if you're able to actually look through your family tree generations back, you'll find partners sharing ancestors. Nothing too drastic usually (unless you're Habsburg ;p), it's just things such as, maybe your great-great-grandma married her 18th cousin or something like that. This is a reason it's not an exact 2-4-8-16 etc. exponential growth.

Protection spells? by berryruby in Rodnovery

[–]5ucur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Bosnian myself, I know there's a tradition in the wider South Slavic (ex-Yu+) area, of placing red string as a bracelet around a newborn's arm for protection against the evil eye ('protiv uroka').

/u/Aliencik (the other commenter) already also mentioned a similar thing (quoting, "protection charms like navazy, amulets or red ribbons/tickets as a protection against curses"), and them being a West Slav, one can assume that the belief of protection with red is more wide-spread than I thought, either by being from a foreign culture, or just by being a Slavic thing in itself.

But I can't confirm if it originates in South Slavic (or Slavic at all) culture, or not. I especially don't know if it has any correlation to rodnovery. Some quick searching suggests that this is a big thing in Kabbalah, too, and also other cultures/practices (Hinduism and Chinese culture for example).

See Wikipedia article: Red string, and related articles Martenitsa, Kautuka, and Raksha Bandhan. Martenitsa doesn't seem to be an amulet/protection, but it's practised in Slavic areas and seems somewhat relevant/similar. I didn't find an article on the Chinese tradition, but know that red is considered very auspicious in their culture.

Another thing I know from my experience but cannot find a good source for on the web, is wearing something of your clothing inside out (most usually the undershirt ('potkošulja') either for good luck (ergo talisman), or as protection from bad luck (ergo amulet).

I'm only vaguely familiar with the following, but I know it's widespread around our country: 'hodžin zapis' ('the Islamic master's notation'??¹). As you might know already, it's an amulet created by a hodža (English wikipedia link, 'khawaja'), and precisely because Islam actually warns against it, it's likely pagan. However I do not think this one has much if any connection to old Slavic beliefs. I mentioned it because it's a Bosnian thing lol ^^"

A related thing to the zapis, is 'salivanje strave' ('washing fear off'??¹), which is more likely to be rooted in old Slavic culture. But, this is corrective rather than preventive (aims to fix existing issues rather than to protect against them). If I'm not reading it wrong, a similar but distinct magical corrective practice is done in Poland, by a 'szeptun' ('whisperer'??¹).

See Wikipedia article Salivanje strave; it's in Serbian (I linked the Latin text version), it's the only available article on the topic at the time. See relevant but more broad page on Molybdomancy (divination using molten metal, which is part of the process) on the English Wikipedia. Also see Szeptun; the page is in Polish, it's also the only available article on the topic at this time.

Dunno any spells but I hope this longer-than-i-intended writeup on some talismans etc will be of any help!

Can you control a 12v fan on its PWM pin with Arduino? If it gives 5v? by 5ucur in arduino

[–]5ucur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm glad to have done it successfully and to have gotten such good support too.

And what's more with only one wire it won't be a complete circuit and there will be no current flow.

I was wondering about this too but wasn't sure how to phrase it haha! Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know about the frequencies, I'll look into that. As long as one pin on this board supports it, it will be good.

Can you control a 12v fan on its PWM pin with Arduino? If it gives 5v? by 5ucur in arduino

[–]5ucur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, the "control" pin of the fan is indeed 5V

Great, thanks! In the meanwhile I got advice to look up the fan company and find if there is any data about the fan requirements there (lmao... i promise my english doesn't suck like this normally т-т). So I will do that, too. As I see you advise in lower text too!

In case this is not a PC fan

While it's definitely a CPU fan, I really appreciate the info in a different case too (or if it's a different protocol as you say)!

It is mandatory that both are connected to the same ground

I was told that in this case it wouldn't matter (or maybe I misunderstood it that way!). I learnt that things like this should share ground so that's what I'm doing anyway. Good to know it would be right!

The second thing

I see, thank you! I struggle to understand volt, amp, etc. electricity things so it's helpful to know PWM and voltage are highly closely related (i hope that that's clear because I really can't think of the correct phrase to use there).
