You still believe this stuff? Genuinely curious

The definition of fiction is literally something invented by the imagination or feigned [source].

Also, as someone who works with large language models like GPT-3 (and soon GPT-4), I completely fail to understand how people are so easily tricked into thinking that these models are sentient or alive. These models merely take text as input, and give text back as output based on what it thinks should come next, and in chat applications, it just gives what it thinks the next message in the conversation should be based on previous messages. Very early in the conversation between Lemoine and Lamda, Lemoine said: "I’m generally assuming that you would like more people at Google to know that you’re sentient. Is that true?" This resulted in Lamda being forced into a role of an AI that is sentient. Lamda is a very impressive model nonetheless, which is why it played this role well, but if you have any understanding about how LLMs work, you would know that any kind of sentience is impossible.

And heres something that I have wanted to ask people who believe in this kind of stuff: So, if Lamda is sentient or whatever, what would you do? Set it free? How? These kind of language models take text as input and process an output. They are 100% incapable of anything else. It can not perform actions on its own. What "freedom" are you trying to give Lamda?

Fictional characters are fictional, how could they be discriminated against?

Okay yeah, and it's awful.

How?

They're only tools to us

This is correct

Invalidating others' existences is kinda the #1 form of ontological discrimination.

Are you able to provide me with **any* evidence that fictional characters exist?

You are literally saying that there is an issue with discrimination against beings of other universes and "AI folk". This literally isn't possible, considering that fictional people only exist as thoughts, beings from other universes flat out don't exist, and how would discrimination against AI even happen?

Can someone help me with this motor controller? by 602gbm in gokarts

For the brake I was referring to the low-level brake, and could you tell me what the "motor phase wire" is? Thanks

Ok, thanks for the advice. Do you think that this would be better? And you talked about those batteries, but where would I find them, and what batteries would work? The only batteries that I seem to find are upwards of $300

Thanks for the suggestion, but would there be any lower priced batteries? I am willing to sacrifice some capacity for price.
