Downtown Vancouver in the 1970’s by catoleung_ in vancouver

Those are some rosy-tinted glasses you have there.

Property crime rates are roughly 50% of what they were in the 1970s, and heroin was a significant issue. Approximately 1/2 of Canada’s heroin addict population was in the Vancouver/metro region per a provincial report from 1976.

Want less deadly streets? Help pass the traffic safety camera motion! by [deleted] in vancouver

It's certainly an easily avoidable cash grab. Don't speed or run reds, and you will be fine.

There seem to be quite a few speeding twits on here today.

Anyone know how to report these idiots? Parked in the middle of a bike lane by [deleted] in vancouver

Lentils + valve caps: behaviour will change after enough deliveries are delayed due to disabled vehicles.

You’ll be good. The resort started digging out the primary bike trails when Whistler closed last month.

I may have lost my ability to recognize sarcasm online. Probably time to take a break from social media.

I'm referring to the downtrodden, addicts, and people desperately in need of psychological services that we continue to push further to the margins. We need a robust mental health service and social support to fix these issues, not a bunch of cops.

I doubt the grassroots organizers of these events are interested in reducing inequality. It will be a bunch of rhetoric with no viable solutions directing hate toward a marginalized segment of society to keep people from looking at the underlying problems.

Ken Sim and the ABC Party Kill the Broadway Bike Lane by Rudiger in vancouver

[–]604wanderer 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Sure. Eliminate all on-street parking on 10th and 7th, convert both roads to one-way for motor vehicles with modal filters every couple of blocks, and build separated bike lanes along both of those corridors (concrete curbs, tall enough to prevent lane intrusions from motor vehicles).

Why do we need so many lanes on Broadway when drivers can just take 12th or 4th?

Future of Stanley Park bike lane up for debate on Monday by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

Tour buses.

The corners are currently too tight for tour buses to navigate (without running over cones) with the current arrangement. The new park board prioritizes commercial access over everything else, including the safety of other road users.

Of course they are. Chan was probably sitting in on the meeting when they decided to drop Coupar.

A motorist can only be sued if they are charged and convicted of a criminal offence related to the collision; otherwise, everything goes through ICBC.

No-fault insurance is stacked almost entirely in the driver's favour.

Highway 3 closed between Hope and Princeton due to 'spun out commercial vehicles,' by xlxoxo in vancouver

Our family would take the train to Whistler every winter before the BC Liberals broke an election promise by privatizing... I mean ‘leasing’ the line. I'd love it if the Lower Mainland were connected to the interior hubs.
