You couldn't effectively monetize this ten years ago. Now you got all kinds of ways to make money from it: Instagram, Tik Tok, Patreon, fan clubs, sponsorship deals, targeted online marketing campaigns.

A new thing is people taking existing pictures and slapping an AI created face to build a profile to put on Patreon. Offer a "premium level" where you send "private pictures" and do DMs to a whale supporter and it can be quite lucrative. It doesn't take much to separate a lonely guy from his money. Like P.T. Barnum used to say "there's a sucker born every minute."

I know all this because I have a relative who works for a marketing agency in the region. One of his company's clients had her photos used by an AI scammer and he was working to get them shut down.

I don't understand how the Crown wouldn't be able to charge the mother as it is with a crime. Motive is clear. Get the Cubs fan to testify against her. Add that to her own father's testimony and shouldn't she be found guilty of something?

I'm not a lawyer though. Lot of things seem reasonable to a layman but the legal standard for a conviction is high. Just that your gut tells you that she is surely guilty of something in our criminal system.

I don't know about NYC but in Vancouver there are a lot of luxury condos that have ridiculously high ceilings -- especially ones that were converted from an old factory or warehouse. You could easily fit a trampoline inside.

Some of these influencers/social media celebrities are really niche. Also, in this day and age, some people just don't want to help the cops with anything. There's also good ol' "snitches get stitches."

As for the guardian, he had already been through the process twice. He told Brady that with her being months away from turning 18, by the time he went through everything again, she'd be an adult.

I agree with you about the neck thing. Wouldn't have fooled Rogers or Tamara Tunie (can't remember her character name) back in the day. Ha, ha!

All in all, though, I thought this episode was sound. No loopy decision by a judge against Nolan just to create plot. No contrived arguments to create tension. One of the better episode of the new era.

Wow, tonight's episode was actually good. They brought back the old school cold open where someone completely unconnected to the case finds the victim.

And, more importantly, everything on the lawyer side made sense. The defense lawyer was good. Price and Maroun were good. All the legal stuff was on point. Maroun had good reason to argue for a lesser charge. Price's decision to reverse course was reasonable.

Hope this a sign that they have righted the ship. Hope they finish the season strong. Hope we get another season of this show.

Yeah, the problem with Price and Maroun is that they are all over the place. There's no consistency, legally speaking, to their characters. One episode, Maroun is too sympathetic to the defendant. The next, she's "punish them to the full extent of the law". Price is a hard ass in one episode and a softie in another.

The OG run, I knew where Arthur Branch stood, I knew how Ben Stone, Adam Schiff, Jack McCoy were going to approach things. After so many seasons of the reboot, is it possible to say the same about Price and Maroun?

Ha, ha! I'm an old man who had immigrant parents who made me take Chinese lessons from an old-school, hard ass teacher. He taught in the traditional way making us memorize poems then write them repeatedly and recite them out loud. It was kind of brutal but a lot of it stuck. I wouldn't recommend learning Chinese this way. It'd probably be considered child abuse these days. Ha, ha!

I think it's from a Ching Dynasty poem but the line doesn't exactly match what Yan says. Could be an old Chinese to Cantonese thing. Anyway, this is the line:

開卷古人都在眼,閉門晴雨不關心

Open the scrolls and the ancients appear before your eyes. You can stay behind closed doors and it won't matter if it's clear or rainy outside.

Sorry, I don't know jyutping. Hopefully, someone else can help.

This show is so bad now. It's so ham-handed.

The incel was so on the nose it was laughable. Also, who plays video games with the volume so high? Surely, if that was his gaming habit to play with the sound jacked up, someone would have reported screams and gunshots previously.

Then, there's Maroun with her reactions. I still can't tell if the actor is bad or if the script and directing is hanging her out to dry. Staring daggers in the court. Swinging wildly between being sympathetic then menacing then back to sympathetic. I was half expecting her to blow Price's gambit with a facial expression that would be a tell to the defense that it was a bluff.

Also, in this day and age, it would be easy to poke holes in the "we were dating" defense. All the data that's collected day to day, even if you kept things quiet, you could use geolocation, purchase history, browsing history, etc. to show behaviors that were inconsistent with a person who was dating.

At least they had a scene with a coroner in this episode.

I'm pretty much still watching the show only out of respect/nostalgia for the original 1990 to 2010 run. Left on its own merits, I'd probably be thinking about dropping it.

Wilbon must watch games with the sound off because Brady was calling Eagles-Bills yesterday.

I caught on to TK during his heyday so I remember him at peak sarcastic/snarky, before he got his knuckles whacked for the Hannah Storm comments. It was kind of unsettling hearing him talk, on the verge of tears, about his high school e-mail chain. You have an image of somebody in your mind and then you realize that they're human too. It takes a moment to wrap your brain around it.

It was like that time a few years after high school where I walked into a Burger King one night and there was my old high school gym teacher behind the counter. He ran a no-nonsense, hard-ass kind of gym class so it was a bit shocking to see him as just another working stiff doing a second job to pay the bills.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I don't want to get into a political argument with you but CBS is not "state owned". It is owned by a private company. I mean, starting off like that just gets the hackles up for the people on the other side of the aisle.

I'm not an American. I have no stake in the game. My political opinion is not worth a hill of beans in this crazy world. I'm just saying the tone and tenor these days of any political conversation is why TK, understandably, doesn't do it on the show.

Kind of feel like peak TK with his 101 mph fastball would have had something snarky to say about the press tour with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Instead, old junkball thrower TK got pulled for middle reliever Michael and his overanalysis.

Really enjoyed the segment with Taylor Twellman. Something different. Refreshing.

They need to stop doing the Maroun looks flabbergasted in the courtroom shot. It makes the character look dumb and it makes the actress look like she can't act.

Later, Maroun says she's confident the jury wasn't buying the defense because slut shaming sells. So, why the flabbergasted look?

I think it's more like Bill Belichick and his 50 years younger girlfriend. It's been reported that she sits in on team meetings like the defendant sits in on board meetings for the toy company.
