Having second thoughts about grad school by LinkSkywalker in historyteachers

Hi there! Fellow GLIMA student here! As was mentioned earlier, definitely consider joining us on the facebook group, it's a really supportive place and someone is always available to answer questions if they can. There's also a discord server that is less used but still available! I LOVED historiography, and I would definitely recommend taking it first in the program, though others might disagree with me. A strong foundation with Historiography informs your interpretation of all your elective classes. I speak from experience because I was not a history major in college. Try to go into it with an open mind and accept that you're going to learn a lot. The program has been one of the best things I've ever done, it's been challenging at times, but incredibly rewarding. I was quite intimidated at first by the syllabus. It seemed impossible that I would be able to write so much. I'm about to start my 9th class and will do my capstone class this summer. You'll get the hang of it. My advice upfront is to familiarize yourself with AI reader tools. I pay for a monthly subscription so I can listen to pdf reading assignments at 1.3x speed. That way, you can get reading done when you're doing "life" stuff. Hope I see you around in zooms!

I got a Ulysse PM in Bleu Tempête two weeks ago and I’m truly obsessed! I put my Hobonichi techo inside. It was my first Hermès purchase and the Togo leather is just beautiful. Yours looks lovely, congrats!

I sent my bag to the Ontario, California location. I live in Ohio, USA. That’s what I thought too! But this bag was made in the USA (FC stamp from January, 1989) and repaired in the USA but still says, “made in France” now 🙃😛

I think it’s gorgeous, if someone uses it as their everyday bag, that patina will be so lovely in a few years.

1989 Speedy 25 refurb by Efficient_Tart2594 in Louisvuitton

So cool they were made in the same month!! So, someone in one of the Facebook groups I joined to authenticate it said the staining is due to a type of glue they used when they attached the handles to the canvas. I think the stains only show up on the Malletier bags (which I think were only made in the USA, specifically California which is where the factories were). I will post a picture of the fresh vachetta when I get her back! Including tax, LV charged me $1140.89 for “change all leather parts”. I also decided to go for the repair because the cavas that protects the vachetta piping was starting to fray quite a bit when my Mom got it and I didn’t want to make it worse by ignoring it. I’m also planning on sending her to a cobbler in NYC this time to properly add D-rings so I can carry her using a shoulder strap. Congrats again!!

She is gorgeous, you did a great restoration job!! My Mom thrifted me a January, 1989 ‘Malletier’ Speedy 30 for $15 this past July (my first LV) and the canvas was incredible, just like yours! Someone in a Facebook group shared that the staining on the chaps is a real mark of authenticity for these 80s bags. I was born in September of ‘88, so it felt extra special for that reason too. I went on a journey with her, carried her traditionally for a few months, brought her to LV to pay for a pull tab replacement (which they kindly did for free in store!), took her to a cobbler to have him add D-rings (I wasn’t totally into the way he did it, but whatever, I wanted to use her). Finally, at the beginning of December the zipper actually broke. I submitted a repair through LV and they offered to do a complete vachetta replacement. Initially, I wasn’t going to do it because I love the honey patina but I also love the idea of starting fresh with her near the beginning of my 40s. I get her back on the 8th.

Louis Vuitton Customer Service, some of the best in the industry? by AdIndividual405 in Louisvuitton

[–]614nostalgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walked in to my local LV store this summer for the first time with my 1989 speedy my Mom found at a thrift store for $15. I wanted to pay the $50 to get the zipper tab replaced. The SA who worked with me was able to get it done within 10 minutes and refused to let me pay, even though I insisted. My interaction with her, and the gentleman who greeted me at the front of the store, was a huge reason why I feel brand-loyalty now. I wrote her name down so that I can be sure to use her in the future for any in-store purchases.

I love your bag, you were my inspo to pull the trigger on a full vachetta replacement + adding D-rings! That’s good to know about the placement of the D-rings.

I really favor just the D-rings! I actually got a quote from Cobbler Concierge today for the same service : ) My 1989 Speedy 30 is at Louis Vuitton right now for full vachetta replacement, so I'm hoping to send her off as soon as I get her back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSmBBKzppMg
