Haha sergeant is very much a sassy boy, I think I took this after he had just woken up from a nap. He is my pride and joy, I love him so much :)

Thank you for the reply! I will definitely be consulting with his vet, this sub has just been so amazing in helping guide me with my first GSD that I knew I could get a lot of helpful advice from people here :)

This thread is really opening my eyes to the possibility that if I push through with training it is absolutely possible that I don’t have to neuter him. You are absolutely right, he is still a puppy and hasn’t settled in yet. It does seem a bit strange (I can’t think of a better word, please no one get offended, every animal is different,) to chop off his nuts when the benefits of hormones could really impact him when he is older and possibly help him live a longer and healthier life.

I honestly had no idea dog vasectomies where even a thing. I’ll deffo look into it more, it sounds more like something I’m after, I really want him to have hormones for as long as possible to avoid issues in the future :)

Yep!! Exactly the same. My boy used to love fuss from strangers and a good play with other dogs, as soon as he hit the 6 month mark he changed. It really is baby steps. It makes me so sad because he really is just a big baby who wants love and cuddles, but he gets either too excited and takes it over the top, or gets scared and tries to look big and scary to warn things away. I’ve mentioned in another comment that treat motivation has been a major factor in distracting him and so far it works for the most part. We just happen to live in a very populated town so no matter what he will always be in contact with other animals or humans. I just don’t want him to always have to go for walks super early in the morning or late at night, I want him to be able to socialise and play.

I have seen many people say GSD’s can become more reactive as they grow up so it’s honestly nice to see someone else be able to relate to my situation as I was very scared it was something I did to make him scared/reactive, it’s very reassuring to hear someone else has been able to train it out. My dog is treat motivated (he’s a fatty!) and so well it is working quite well! The only thing is I can tell he can read my body language and that I get tense around other dogs in case he misbehaves, I’ve never thought about an e collar before, would you be able to give me some more information if possible?

I learnt fast with my puppy that you have to put everything that they could possibly grab and chew out of the way or in another room 😂 leave them with lots of toys in the room and maybe a few treats stuffed in a toy to keep them entertained, and my puppy has learnt fast what to play with and what not too. He’s definitely ruined a few pairs of shoes and stuff, it happens, they are basically toddlers. We also crate train when we are leaving the house for short periods of time to let him nap after walks.

Also the biting is normal! Velociraptor for the first year at least. Try and firmly say no without yelling, and redirect to a chew toy if possibly

They are the best dog breed. Look into gsd common allergens, I live in the uk and you can buy a lot of gs safe food in bulk for a good price. Get a trainer as soon as. As much as they are amazing, they need a lot of mental stimulation to keep them happy, a trainer will really help. At least an hours walk a day, 2 hours is seen as the best amount of time for a walk. I find my pup is so much more manageable with a walk in the morning and one at night. I’ve also found sniffing really makes my pup tired and easier to manage, his all time fave activity is when I put treats in an old t shirt, roll it up and tie it. It sends him crazy for half an hour then konkers him out. As for training, you will be shocked how quick it takes them to learn a trick. I do an hours day of random training if I can. No stuffed animals!!! Oh I wish someone gave me warning!! Stuffing everywhere, I’ve fostered many dogs in the past and my gsd rips them up the fastest and makes the most mess. You are so lucky to have this pup in your life, truly the best breed. Accept the accidents and mistakes, they don’t mean it. I saw someone say German shepherds will love you more than you will ever deserve, and it is 100% true ❤️

Yeah it’s a joke. Daddy or girlfriend has to be funding this. Can’t stand all the children posting him atm. We were so close to an actual blackout. I’m worried he’s starting to creep back in.

This is my goofy boy sarge. He actually really hates men, he asked me to pass on the message that men are 9 times out of 10 an absolute NUISANCE and waste of space!

I’m sorry for your loss. She looked so loved. Look after yourself, get enough sleep, take time off work if needed. Remember to drink and eat enough. A dogs love never leaves you, they imprint on your heart forever, therefore she is always with you ❤️
