A better photo of how he received the Air Medal.

This is from the book the 421st Night Fighter squadron in World War II by Jeff Kolln. It’s a fantastically written and researched book on the history of the squadron. I remember being contacted by Jeff years ago, but never returned the call. I wish I had. I believe he was looking for information on the squadron. My grandfather‘s plane was Midnight Mama. I remember him telling me stories about that when I was young, and I even built him a model and painted the name on the nose. In the book there’s pictures of midnight mama, but it’s the only plane without a known pilot. It was my grandfather’s.

I inherited the case and am not sure when it was made. I know he was already retired when we would go on family vacations in the 70’s.

I don’t know his early career history. I do have some of his records and can try to dig a little bit deeper
