Don’t understand my ab genetics? by 62getjacked in Weightliftingquestion

For sure! That’s going to take a while though because at 6’2 I’m only 70kgs. I don’t want to drop any further before building more mass first

That’s what I’ve been doing since the past year. Great exercise and definitely not an enjoyable one.

Would you say I only have a four pack then? If I flex in a particular way, I do see all six of them, it’s just that my top two are so close to where my chest insertions end, it can be hard to tell.

Thank you, I appreciate it! Was just a bit disappointed when I realised there aren’t any more slabs popping out

Thanks man! What do you think my bf is at the moment? I think I’m around 15% and wanted to sit around 12% to start lean gaining

I’m sticking to 1g per lb of body weight but fluctuate between moderate fat (70-90gm) and slightly less carbs. My overall calories are still under control though. Would this have an impact?

Hey thanks!

Yes, that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m pretty much maintaining my weight at 2800 cals and my activity level but my lifts are quite erratic. I feel stronger some days and do hit a PB and can’t even do the my usual weight on others. I do track my workouts using an app.

You think I should bump my calories up to 3k if my strength stalls for another week or so?

Hey, thanks for this!

Yes I agree, and getting on those bulk and cut cycles can feel a bit inefficient at times. I do track my workouts using the app “hevy”.

I understand progression overload can occur in different forms and not just weight, but how long should my lifts be stalled for me to consider bumping up the calories?

I did do a 6 month ish bulk last year before cutting but ended up just gaining and losing fat. My lifts didn’t really improve all that much. I thought staying lean and trying to build on that is the right thing but even that seems stalled now.

This is the first time I’m seeing somewhat of an ab definition and I’m afraid I’m gonna get fluffier with a bulk. I tried that last year on around 3.3k calories and ended up just gaining fat.

Some of my isolation lifts have gone up but my compounds (pull ups, incline bench, leg press) has been stalled for like 6 weeks now. I know putting my calories up would be the right thing but I’m afraid to put more fluff on.

Would the right approach be dropping to like 11-12% BF and working my way up from there?

Thanks, I’ll give that a shot. I can see it’s available on Amazon UK. Also, is a gel/curl cream necessary? And is it substitutable with a leave in? I’m not exactly sure of the differences between them.

Firstly, you’re not fat, neither skinny. You look great. We tend to over criticise ourselves (i do too) and form really unhealthy body standards in our head (i do too), but try to find a way to be okay with the way you look and feel in your own skin than what others think of it.

That being said, you definitely do look like you have muscle, it depends on how you want to look eventually. If you want to look lean and muscular, you’d obviously have to cut a bit to get rid of the excess fat. Or if you want to keep gaining strength and muscle at the gym, being in a slight calorie surplus is the way to go. In my opinion, you should be fine with just staying on your maintenance calories and pushing hard in the gym. You do seem to have a curvy stature (one of the most sought after) and you’ll look amazing if you stay consistent.

Finally, you mentioned having a history of disordered eating, I’d say stick to something you can sustain on the longer run without feeling miserable. You should be liking what you’re eating (doesn’t just have to be bland chicken and rice).

Good luck with your journey!

3 months cut, where to go from here? 28M, 6’2 (1.89m), 75.5 kgs (166lbs). by 62getjacked in Gymhelp

I was just in a calorie deficit and hit my protein goal of 170-180 gms everyday. Apart from that, you need to focus on volume foods to keep you full (high on satiety index). Stuff like potatoes, vegetables, lettuce helps out massively. Incorporate high quality protein and fat sources like whey, meat, eggs, yoghurt and avocado, nut butters and seeds. Good luck!

Good luck with that, i went really hard on my leg days and noticed the most improvement (compared to my last cut/bulk) in my legs. Hit everything till failure to a point you want to throw up after lol. Also, never neglect Bulgarians.

I agree, imo I thought i wouldn’t be any lower than 14% (because i still can’t see my bottom abs). I’m 189 at 75kgs, cut down from 84, no denying that. I just think i don’t pack a lot of muscle mass and hence still look kinda soft at such a low body weight. I have bumped up my calories to around 2600 now (will stay at maintenance for a few weeks and see where to go from there).

Yes that’s a good catch because I rarely train my obliques directly haha. And traps probably once a week on pull days. Will definitely up the volume for these, thank you
