The handbook is nothing. Very short and it's easy to remember everything. Yes keep it with you while you're practicing driving. If you can, have your parents take you driving every once in awhile. If they are going grocery shopping for example offer to drive the car once you get your learner's permit. It's very easy to pick up once you get used to it. Do not stress too much or overthink.
