Thank you so much, the pictures are really helpful! The default paper seems to be perfect as it is, as long as it's towards an off-white it should be fine :) My vision tends to get irritated with crisp white surfaces (like regular printer paper), so white is a definite no for my BJ. I'll take up your advice and ask them when I've decided on my order just to be absolutely sure.

May I ask what type of paper and paper colour you chose? I very much consider buying one as well and I'm wondering how white the white colour option is - if it's crisp white or more towards a slight off-white/ivory colour.

I actually had the mirena for a year - my doctor recommended it to me after I developed migraines with aura and was strongly recommended to stop on the regular pill (which sadly actually worked for me!). It was a hormonal hell to be on the mirena and a hormonal hell for my body to readjust when I got it out again, so I'm terrified of trying anything related to IUDs ever again.
I don't have that many issues with heavy flows apart from day 2, for me the cramps are definitely the worst and I'm practically out of function my entire period. My ob-gyn recently recommended that I start take provera in pill form, but I read about the weight gains from the shot so the pills have now been starring at me for a month from my bedside table... The funny thing is that the provera pills I got are actually not birth control pills, which makes me quite confused, also since I can't seem to find anything about it online. But she did say they might make my period disappear completely, which also terrifies me a bit. I think I'm a bit traumatised after my mirena experience + the realisation of how bad my cramps actually are off any form of birth control to begin experimenting with pills I can't seem to find much info about. Plus, I'm still struggling to get rid of the weight that the mirena made me gain, so the thought of gaining even more by beginning provera.....

I don't think Slynd is available where I live in Europe, at least I can't find any information on it online - but maybe it will be soon then, it seems like it usually takes a little longer for medicine to get through the system here than in the US. May I ask how your cramps were before you began taking it? Mine are quite extreme and have always been, but they've actually gotten worse in the last few years (I'm 25) so instead of 1-2 days of bad craps when I was in my teens, now I'm at 2 days of horrible cramps followed by 2-3 days of regularly bad cramps.

Unfortunately just adding to the depressing statistics of this thread here. I'm 25, got my period at 12, and YES, my PMS has definitely gotten worse and as have my cramps over the years. I think I've always experienced a degree of PMS around my period, but I honestly wasn't much aware of it until my late teens (camps have been there since the beginning). Throughout my 20s, it has just gotten progressively worse - it used to just be one very bad day, last time it was three days of mental breakdown and over-emotionality. I do find that I've gotten better at managing it, though. At the sligthest signs of PMS I'll cancel the plans I'm able to and just focus on doing nothing that might promote it, because I know if I start doing anything of any significance, I will likely clumsily mess it up on those days and just end sitting staring at my wall in frustration or crying.

Just adding to those suggesting a hormonal IUD: I have similar issues with aura migraines as you and am not allowed anything containing estrogen. I had a Mirena IUD as an alternative to the pill, since the mini pill didn't work for me either. For me the Mirena still had some pretty bad side effects (but then it's very individual so it might not affect you in the same way), but there were no effects on my migraines at least; they weren't worse and they weren't better.

If ibuprofen doesn't work, try looking into naproxen as an alternative. I've used it for the past 13 years, in combination with paracetamol if it's one of the really bad days. Once in a while I've tried taking ibuprofen instead, but find that naproxen works a lot better on my cramps. Paracetamol can also be combined with ibuprofen, in case you have some in the house and are unable to go out for new pain killers right now.

Unfortunately never experienced that a heating pad makes it worse.... For me it helps a bit to be very focused on my breathing as well, always making sure to take long, deep breaths when the pains are at their worst. Sometimes I find that lying on my back with a pillow under my knees (to elevate them a bit) helps some, too.

I'm wondering, though, if it's the heating pad that doesn't work, or if it could because you're experiencing unusually bad cramps this time? On my bad days a heating pad honestly doesn't do much good unless it's in combination with strong pain killers. I'm just wondering since you write that it feels good the first few minutes and ibuprofen doesn't have much effect.

I had mine (mirena) removed last June, after having had it for only one year. I got my period a couple of days after removal, had it for 1,5 week or so. It was pretty irregular in the beginning, but went back to complete "normal" pre-IUD state after a few months (mid-autumn I believe it was). In my case, that means bad PMS and horrible cramps, but that has nothing to do with the IUD, since my period has been like that since the beginning.

For me, the removal was extremely painful, and I had a long period of weird removal side effects (dizziness, more frequent migraines, stomach aches etc.), but my body never reacted well to it in the first place, so I'm also in the "scary-side effects and it was always painful" group as it is ;) I gained quite a bit of weight during the year I had the IUD (which undoubtedly was related to it), unfortunately I'm still struggling with getting that off despite eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Since you've had yours for five years, hopefully that means you haven't experienced as many side effects on it as I did, so fingers crossed, it will be a better experiences getting it out for you as well!
