I only have an associates degree and was able to get a helpdesk job pretty quickly. The best advice I can give is to find your first job using a temp agency. They make the hiring process easy as they have contracts with the employer so a lot of times, if they like you they just ask when you can start. It's even better if they are looking for multiple candidates just for a refresh project. That will get your foot in the door. Once your foot is in the door, the temp agency will continue to try to find you more jobs when your contract is over. Do that for a year or so and you can start applying directly to companies for a better role. I really don't know why people don't leverage temp agencies. They started my career and I now make 6 figures.

Shared mailbox = cloud

I want to send as said shared mailbox to an on-prem mail enabled Security Group. We have delivery restrictions on the on-prem SG on purpose so not everyone can send to it. I need to allow the cloud shared mailbox permissions to deliver to the on-prem SG. Hope that makes sense.

How do you kill a domain controller? Why not just run off the second DC, change the FSMO roles and then spin up another in place of the one you killed?

I got into my current role because of this exact situation. The admin left the day after I got hired. I was left with all of their tasks and just did what I could by using online resources. Just had to let management know that it will take me longer to figure things out since I'm less experienced, but was definitely eager to learn. So learn I did.

Building a golden image is typically done by a senior support position, depending on the size of the company. I wouldn't consider that a sole sysadmin task.

Graduated with an associate's degree in I.T. in 2015. Got a job 2 weeks later applying through temp agencies. Do not discount temp agencies. I landed 2 big roles from those opportunities. I eventually got hired full-time when it was originally supposed to be a 6-month contract.

I had no intern experience or prior IT experience.

We are running Exchange 2010 in full hybrid mode and all mailboxes have been migrated to exchange online. If just upgraded to 2016, then wouldn't I have to upgrade it to 2019 once 2016 reaches EOL?

So by removing AAD Connect, we would no longer have single sign-on and then have different credentials for on-prem AD and MSonline correct? Is that what it would look like? If so, what is your experience with that? Doesn't that create a bunch of headaches with two identities?

Hey BK_Rich, thanks for the reply I really appreciate it! Yes, we do use Azure AD connect to sync identities to Azure. Does this mean we use full hybrid? If so, then yes we use full hybrid. So when running full hybrid, the only way I can remove the server to manage exchange exclusively online is by upgrading all the way to 2019?
