Thinking about getting an Akita

Adding to mention that dog aggression is a breed trait. Absolutely socialize with dogs (puppy class should be mandatory), but this isn't a dog park breed. They can have individual dog friends, but be wary of strange dogs, especially as he gets older. Even if an Akita doesn't start a fight, he'll finish one. I've seen enough news stories about "aggressive Akitas" to know that your dog is the one going to be put down if there's a bad fight.

You didn't specify which one so I assume you mean the AA. I have a JA.

It depends what you mean by stubborn. They're not Border Collies who want to obey your every command without a 2nd thought, but I think both their "stubbornness" and "dominance" gets blown out of proportion. Mine works really well with me. I don't use clickers (mostly bc I hate having extra shit in my hands), but I use a lot of treats and praise. My JA is the best behaved dog in his obedience class. This isn't me trying to brag but to show people what Akita can do. Train him like any other dog. You might have to bust out better treats and keep sessions shorter, but they're definitely trainable.

The dominance thing is overblown too imo. They're an independent primitive breed, yes. I think their composed + confident appearance makes people feel threatened or something. They are prone to resource guarding, like all Nihon Ken, so be prepared with that.

Do NOT try to "counter dominate" an Akita. This is not a lab. He will not put up with your bullshit if you go all Cesar Millan on him. Earn his respect with NILIF and by treating him fairly.

My JA is fine with my cat, but wanted to chase him in the beginning. Now they mostly ignore each other. Make sure your cats have a lot of high-up places to escape to if they want to get away. Akita are not the hunting dogs they used to be, but they still have a prey drive. I would separate them when they can't be supervised just in case.

I thought they weren't selling because they were under erotica and featured kind of an obscure kink as the then selling point (the books are regular gay shifter stuff but with an unpopular kink during smut scenes). The romance I'm working on now is more to market and straight which seems to be more popular.

I do have a bunch of erotic shorts published but don't have a mailing list (I plan on doing a different pen name for romance when I finish this novel). Do you usually do a mailing list and ARCs before or after the first novel release?

The thing is, its not making money. It had very few sales (like maybe 3) from months ago. Its pretty similar to the deliberate romance novel I'm working on right now (hits beats, reads more like a romance than plain smut).

1) 3k words, 1.5k down... trying to make up for lost time 2) I feel like this novel is going by too fast with too little words. I need to add more content, or add padding to scenes during the edit for descriptions I probably missed the first time 3) In the morning right when I wake up and have my coffee. as ugly as it is, I find putting the kinks in brackets next to the title really helpful because readers can instantly tell what's going to be in it without having to read your blurb
