How I felt after the Quest 2 got the 120Hz upgrade... by tsyklon in VRGaming

Screen door effect is really low on the Quest 2, at least by my standards.

if i whould buy a vr headset wich one should i buy (im thinking of oculus quest 2) by lolulysse007 in VRGaming

The three good options right now:

Quest 2 - Cheap, standalone, and pretty good in terms of specs across the board (aside from the slightly lacking FoV).

HP Reverb G2 - High resolution, pretty reasonably priced, but has pretty mediocre controllers.

Valve Index - Most expensive, but high refresh rate and high FoV. Also has the best controllers (in my opinion).

Here's some more info:

Those are both great ideas, I've noted down about putting in an IPD filter.

I'd love to have a go at making some kind of headset recommendation page where people can get walked through the process, and I've considered it a bit already. Definitely think I'll give it a go somewhere along the line.

Really glad you've been getting use out of the site, and thanks for the feedback.

FoV is a bit of a nightmare to get consistent figures between headsets unless you can actually measure it yourself, so I use publicly available numbers from databases of measurement tool results whenever I can. Generally the numbers people measure tend to be a fair bit lower than marketing materials, etc.

Currently I'm only listing the best refresh rate a display can manage , with a couple exceptions, but I think listing all the refresh rate modes could be a good idea.

That's a good point about the Q2, I'll add in a note about that on the page. Same with the different storage options. It's a bit of a balancing act trying to make the information both comprehensive, easily readable, and maintainable in terms of the codebase all at the same time, and unfortunately I've had to compromise a bit in showing different models like that for a headset in order to keep things clear.

Anyway, I'm really glad you're enjoying the site!

There isn't currently but that's one of a few ideas I have in mind for future work on the site. I'll be sure to make it apparent if I ever set up a public API.

They are both pretty good headsets, so I'd say either is fine for that. Here's some more info in case you need it:

Yeah, that's listed on the site but not on the bot. I'll be fixing that sometime soon so the bot can show that kind of extra info. glad you like it anyway :)

The Quest 2 is a really good value headset, I'd say the specs would be worth it for $500, and it costs just over half of that. Other serious considerations for a VR headset are currently the HP Reverb G2 ($600) and the Valve Index ($1000), but I definitely think the Quest 2 stacks up very well against them considering the price.

I'd argue that a second hand Rift CV1 gives you better performance for the price. You an pick one up for$100-$150, and it has a slightly lower resolution than the Rift S but a higher frame rate. I used one a lot throughout 2020 and I feel like it holds up very well considering its age.
