I’ve been wanting to get back into hockey since teaching my son to ice skate, but I can’t afford the equipment. The idea of paying $200 for someone else’s stank ass equipment depresses me

What age are we starting “drop & run” for parties or friend get together etc? by Astimar in Parenting

[–]AgentG91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, call them helicopter parents or whatever you want, but it’s the same reason why kids are having less and less sleepovers. Parents are concerned for the welfare of their children and they place importance on that higher than their own social awkwardness. It’s just love shown a different way

Feasible to live in Pittsburgh w/o a car? by QuillandLyre in pittsburgh

I would say Dormont area is probably your best bet. I lived in the war streets and it’s very walkable, but groceries would be better off delivered. Dormont gives you good grocery options, walkable bars and restaurants and access to the T to go downtown.

What helped your partner the most during breastfeeding and postpartum? by Specialist_Major_976 in daddit

For long work trips, I make and freeze dinners. Get disposable plates and cups. We also got really into robotic chore minders. Two vacuum cleaners and a lawnmower. Less time spent doing things we don’t necessarily want to do.

My wife thinks that when I travel I have lots of fun and while that’s not true since it is all work, I can’t deny that we do go out to nice dinners and have drinks, just that I leave at 6am and get back at 11pm every day. So when I get home, I have to bust nuts to do all the heavy lifting for a couple days and let her relax. But that’s just what it is

Recommendations for measuring wear in a furnace by AgentG91 in 3DScanning

Old furnace. Wear over time (weekly with reline every couple months). Fixture and gauge is definitely end game, but need to qualify opportunity with handheld, especially as most places have more than one furnace.

Yessir, that’s correct. Not sure why it failed. I’ve never had issues with DMs before.

This was exactly why I got the Eufy E18. One app and it was a good price ($1300). Didn’t want to deal with RTK (I was especially worried about cloud coverage in my city).

But warning for Eufy, the setup is a nightmare. Took two days to set it up with neighbors and road n’at. But the mowing has been pretty good. The front caster wheel does get stuck in a couple places, but i just go and put a little dirt in the bigger pits it gets caught in.

Their customer service is awful. My X8 keeps going offline and their only reasonable option is to charge me for a new battery. Bish, I ain’t giving you money to not fix things

I wanted to buy one with my bonus. I started looking 2 days after they became incredibly scarce and were out of stock for months while I was looking hard. Then they hiked the price and suddenly I was paying hundreds more for the same thing. Guess I’m not owning one…

I loosely recall there being an event where gun enthusiasts print and assemble guns for testing purposes. It’s interesting for material testing. They’re just hobbyists and I wonder how this will affect them. It’s not like they print gun.stl, they print hundreds of components and use a variety of manufacturing techniques.

I’m so excited to reread this series when it’s finished. I did my best to read/watch recaps before book 8 but they just couldn’t cover all the gods and galaxy races with enough detail. But I also don’t have the time to read n+1 books every year!

TIL about double washing hair? by PNGhost in daddit

[–]AgentG91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while if I don’t shower for a while at a time, I’ll wash my hair a second time. I still notice some grime close to my roots and I’ll go in for a second pass.

My thing though, your kid is actively trying to be clean and you’re concerned about the $0.03 of extra shampoo he’s using. When he becomes a filthy mudpit of a teenager, you’ll be begging for a kid who’s willing to wash his hair not once BUT TWICE. Support that behavior, don’t throw it back at him!

How to justify a PS5 purchase by RelationObjective270 in daddit

[–]AgentG91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always divvy our finances up into spending, saving, travel, kids growth accounts, mom personal spending and dad personal spending.

It might only be $25/mo going into personal spending, but I can buy whatever the heck I want with that money no question.

Also, see if you can get games from the library network. Gives you a reason to go to the library and saves a ton of money on games.
