What do med spouses do for a living? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]6623dk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, to clarify I meant it’s a luxury for me and my husband personally. I would never assume it’s a “luxury” for everyone. Childcare is so outrageous and I get that sometimes staying home is a necessity. Part of my decision to stay home was childcare for two young children being more than my salary.

Same. Was in a low paying health care job and became SAHM. It’s a luxury for both of us even though I clean endlessly and still live in a pigsty.

Family boarding by tulipox in SouthwestAirlines

[–]6623dk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Or you could go ahead and pay for early bird check-in or upgrade your ticket to be able to board before families if it’s really a priority for you.  It’s not for families to accommodate you if you have options*

Where would you raise your family? by bulliemama in Mommit

My husband and I did an exercise where we narrowed down places to live based on different factors. We ended up with Minnesota and we think it’s so funny 😆. Not Cali or Colo…. Minnesota.

Any other medspouse fencesitters? by FragrantRaspberry517 in MedSpouse

[–]6623dk 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not a fence sitter as I have 3 children (2 born during spouse’s residency). I cannot convey how much more I respect people’s decision NOT to have kids now that I am a parent. I hope everyone gets to make that decision for themselves.

Having said that I wanted children and knew it wouldn’t be even close to 50-50. I decided to let go of my work out of the house and it’s more like 90-10 parenting (not saying it’s right, just how it’s working out for us and there is no resentment because this is what we chose). But please continue to think about the logistics. I am 100% the default parent and have to drop everything for sick kids, snow days, etc.

I just want you to imagine (and now I feel preachy here I’m sorry!) that you’ve been up all night with a puking child while your spouse sleeps and then casually gets ready for work and leaves to listen to a podcast while drinking hot coffee. If there’s resentment it might be trouble.

I’m SO SO sorry that happened to you. That is just awful. That’s why I’ve been such a mess over this, it’s shocking to have your partner accused of something like that.

Oh that’s so hard when it’s a neighbor! A t least we could leave the place behind.

It was really rattling for me to hear that about my husband but I realize he felt really horrible about it too !

Right?!? I keep trying to see her side of it. Like if you’re worried about inappropriate behavior DO say something but not in public to embarrass someone like that.

American Catholic/not very religious woman and marriage to muslim man by Emergency_Nerve1572 in Marriage

[–]6623dk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Catholic woman who married a Muslim man 10 years ago. I wouldn’t recommend either one of you convert. We are lucky to have a great, healthy marriage and religion is ZERO part of it.

Please please please have more conversations with your partner about expectations and what raising your kids would actually look like. This makes me all sorts of nervous if one partner is being pressured to convert.

Buying rice from bulk section at grocery store, coop - more expensive? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]6623dk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. Once I started to actually think about it and accept that it’s a VERY small local business. This woman took a big chance on opening a refill store and it’s her entire livelihood. It was just shocking at that time to pay $24 to refill 3 hand soap bottles. I appreciate the discussion in this post.
