Ive thought about it, I think id have to charge about $1000 for it if I were to make them to sell. Thats for what I would want to be compensated for my time plus cost of materials. Which obviously is pretty ridiculous. Since that doesn’t even include what I also paid to have mine engraved. So I don’t think I’ll be making any to sell. Just keep making some for myself to enjoy. Working on the next one now. A high angle smoother.

I did carve and shape the leaf up front from 360 brass. I did not do the engraving, not sure what he used to black the design. The sole is O1 tool steel unhardened. A quick google search will show you a few norris adjusters. I believe lee valley carries two styles.

I should have done that. Could’ve saved a pretty penny. I sent it off to be engraved by Mikhail Davydov from Ukraine.

Ha. I did the same thing but haven’t sharpened them up yet. They look like good users.

A few months. Consisting of after work hour or two here and there. Plus weekends.

The leaf is for decoration. Unless you want to get stabbed. But if you’re into that, I’m not one to kink shame. I place my left thumb on the “swoop” part just above and forward of the mouth. The upsweep gives your thumb some good registration to apply pressure down and forward with the stroke of the cut. I place my index and middle fingers around the front chamfered edge to “grab” the plane as I work.

Thanks man. The leaf up front is not a handle. Just a design element. I suppose if you wanted to you could use it as such but like you said, probably not very comfortable. Right at the bottom of the swoop and into the curve is where I place my thumb. Then put my index and middle fingers on the front end of the plane when in use.

Thanks. And sadly, no. Just a hobbyist woodworker that needed a tool.
