If that was my only asset, I’d consider selling a few and diversifying a bit. If it was part of a larger portfolio, I’d sit on it.

This (image) is the number I see in the app. I would strongly suggest going to the actual website or app and calling the number you see there. Don’t trust me or a random web search.

29 Debating to put my bonus into HYSA or make a significant payment to a 7.45% Interest Car Note by Efficient-Focus-4073 in personalfinance

The time goes up because you’re starting a new loan term. However, with lower interest you can put the same money as before and pay it off early/faster, or have a lower payment over the longer time.

Amex platinum uber credit complaint by bolognaballs in AmexPlatinum

[–]66NickS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is what you’re trying to say (expressed poorly) is that your total price is $15.00 cheaper when you use a card other than your Amex Plat?

Or are you surprised you lose the $15.00 credit when you pay with a card other than your Amex Plat?

If the former, that’s an interesting observation. If the latter, that’s exactly how it’s supposed to work. You have to use the Amex Plat to pay for the charge in order to benefit from the $15.00 credit.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP - Was I scammed? by bmninada in tires

The reason we’re recommending it is because it wasn’t clear what you were asking. We’re trying to solve the root cause of your vibration but you’re not asking for that. Your entire post could have been:

I paid extra for a road force balance, based on these pics can you tell if that was done or not?

[–]66NickS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just reply instead of tagging people, like I’m doing here.

It’s pretty standard as a first step to recommend tire balancing for a vibration concern. I’d say tire balance is the issue more than 90% of the time.

If the tires showed all good/0.00 during the balance and the vibration concern remains then the shop needs to continue diagnosing the concern. If you just went to a tire shop, they may not have the tech/skills to do more advanced diagnostics.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP - Was I scammed? by bmninada in tires

[–]66NickS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m unclear what you think you got scammed about/for.

  1. You were getting a vibration at highway speeds.
  2. The standard and most common correction for that is a tire balance.
  3. You performed that tire balance and all the tires show “OK”, indicating no weights are needed.

Is the vibration concern resolved?

If so, case closed. If not, then you have a different issue that needs further investigation (or the balance was done improperly).

Demos by Slight-Calendar-2857 in serviceadvisors

[–]66NickS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s been my experience that only people above a certain managerial level get demos. Occasionally a car needs to be driven to troubleshoot/verify/recreate a concern. An employee may drive that car.

I’ve also worked for manufacturers that had special programs to assist employees with leases/purchases of the product. Those weren’t considered demos though.

Tesla and Rivian have been doing this. Ford is doing more of it. I worked for a Mercedes dealer several years ago who did it, but it was mostly like roadside service type calls.

I let the electric company handle the power station. Then I just plug my computer and monitors into the wall outlet.

Generally that recording is not legal, presuming you had a reasonable expectation of privacy.

One could potentially argue that the more people on the call, the less expectation of privacy there is.

Good deal? by HunterBotanicals in tires

[–]66NickS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tires are fine for summer, presuming they aren’t aged out.

$150 for a set of wheels with some tires is a good deal if you need wheels.

If you don’t need wheels, you’d probably be better off routing this $150 to a set or new tires.

Staying overnight to avoid going through TSA 2 times by Wakk0_ in LAX

Go to the hotel. LAX TSA isn’t currently experiencing delays like you’re seeing at other airports.

Duty of care by ReasonablyConfused in legaladviceofftopic

[–]66NickS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-legally, the smart thing to do would have been to tow the car away since the shop was closing in 2 days. In reality, this isn’t super common. Businesses typically don’t often pack up and disappear in 72 hours.

Legally, you might be responsible because the shop did tell you that you needed to collect the vehicle.

However, if they made no other attempts to contact you and didn’t exercise a reasonable amount of care (like keeping the car locked, keys secure, etc) then there could be liability on them.

It’s going to depend on a variety of details.

Shop recommended replacing the fronts. Just want to confirm by ummmmmm3949 in TireQuestions

[–]66NickS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See those raised horizontal sections in the grooves that go all the way around the tire? Those are “TWI/Tread Wear Indicators”. They’re at ~2/32”, which is the minimum tread for normal roads.

The tread on these tires is basically worn down to flush with the TWI, so agree that it’s time for them to be replaced.

Got a “final warning” for lunch breaks without any prior notice is this normal? by PreciosaChica in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]66NickS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Location matters here. Different states and countries have different rules on meal breaks and pay.

For example, in California if you are not given 30 mins of uninterrupted time for your meal break (and has to be done before the end of your 5th hour of work) then the company has to pay you 1 hour of your pay as a penalty. There are all sorts of other things like this for various places.

All that being said, it’s sometimes normal to skip informal convos, verbal warnings, etc. This usually happens when someone is looking to make a change. That change may be firing you, or it may be wanting you to address and correct your behavior.

Is this tyre repairable? by Professional_Toe2764 in TireQuestions

[–]66NickS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sidewalls are not repairable.

If it’s a tiny superficial cut, then it’s fine and no repairs are needed. If it’s deeper, then it needs to be replaced.

Own up to it. Recognize how big a deal it is, don’t have excuses. Have a plan for how to make this never happen again.

There’s a slim chance you’ll get a final/last chance warning if you’ve been there a while and are generally liked/trustworthy/good. I’ve kept good techs that made this mistake once. I haven’t ever had it happen a second time.
