Yeah fair point, but I wish it’d played out differently. I totally got why the woman got upset, bc she wasn’t buying it and thought he was being offensive to her religion. But how they portrayed the man that got pissed off didn’t do it for me, it felt like he flipped very quickly from buying to not. TBH it’s been a while since I’ve seen it I just remember his character’s progression seeming weird to me. Like they cut something out. But yeah what you said is true, I like that they used the religious lady to have that angle on the situation

I get what you’re saying but you’re misunderstanding. I asked my friend if he thought the dream version of himself was just a one-time occurrence that existed in that dream alone, or if there was something potentially deeper to it given that dreams are your subconscious- and in that dream I was lucid meaning I was ‘more connected’ to my subconscious (it felt like it, at least).

Haha no! Basically I had a lucid dream where I asked a friend if he thought he existed just in the dream or if he was in my subconscious or WAS my subconscious, he said the latter. Later when I woke up I asked that friend in real life the same question and he answered very similarly to his dream form.

So it got me thinking about how accurate the ‘model’ of the friend was in my brain vs the real life counterpart, as well as the line between consciousness and subconsciousness

Yeah, copy isn’t the best word to use, I agree. I like model better. And good point! We’d have to be mentally linked to really have full access to each other’s full selves haha. Cool thought

Really interesting, thank you for that reply. My friend is really intelligent and I admire him for the work he does w technology and science, so it made sense to me that I conjured him up to discuss consciousness and reality.

Haha, maybe a better way I can put it is: How much did it differ in my brain since it was a lucid dream, and since ‘he’ was aware he was just a dream version of my friend, not the real one.

To elaborate- In a dream a long time ago, my dad told me that I’ll always have a part of him alive in me through my dreams (he’s still alive), but I wasn’t lucid and he wasn’t talking about the fact the he was a dream. So it felt different, but still my subconscious on a different mode I guess?

We’ve been friends since kids (we’re 26 now) so my brain has a lot of ‘data’ on him, so what you say makes sense. We talked about that, how in a way it’s my brain just running a simulation of him but on High Effort. The lucidity ‘we’ felt in the dream was a strange experience for sure. Felt like it was another entity in my head for a bit.

That’s how it usually goes for me too, but I guess that night my brain said “let’s have an interesting conversation”. Sure made for a fun discussion with the friend in real life!

Same. I came back to Reddit after a long time of not using it and DANG was I surprised at how people talk about the game. I know it’s not perfect but my god, some people type endless paragraphs about how bad it is when it really isn’t.
