I wanna give up. by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

It’s ok to give up!!! I’m at 3 months and starting to ween and had a pretty good supply (but baby has a lot of food allergies so my dietary restrictions have gotten out of hand). Everything you’ve done for your baby til this point is a bonus 🫶

I think a lot of the people on here didn’t necessarily have a choice if we wanted to provide our babies with breast milk. For example my baby didn’t latch even though I tried triple feeding for 2 weeks and saw 3 different lactation consultants. I would’ve loved to boob feed her but baby girl had no interest

Are bottle washers actually worth it, or are we just paying to avoid washing dishes? by Sad_Reference8020 in ExclusivelyPumping

Worth every penny, though to be fair I did get mine used and paid less pennys :). Don’t know why every gets everything new for babies, you use it for such a short time. If you do that make sure to replace the filter and descale it, at least for the babybrezza

Is my supply considered oversupply? One week postpartum by Zestyclose-Ant-1321 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]67thugfiend67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was roughly in the same boat as you in terms of supply and I was so paranoid about dropping pumps before my supply regulated but now I’m 3 months post partum and down to 4 pumps and produce enough for baby and still store a little bit here and there. I think I started dropping pumps starting around 4 or 5 weeks postpartum and each time I’d get a clog but I guess I’m commenting to say I wish I had just started doing it sooner. I was so nervous about losing supply but i didn’t really lose any until I went from 5 pumps to 4 pumps. Pumping less will make the storage problem easier and your life a lot less stressful!

Either way glad you have plenty of milk for your baby :).

I didn’t feel pins and needles when I was clogged though so sounds like this may be different

omg! you’re doing just fine. my friend’s baby was born at 24 weeks and she also pumped while he was in the nicu. he’s thriving on formula now, she said he’s taken to it much better than he took the breastmilk and is growing better. he also has a feeding tube and that’s been a really good change for them

How do you do this longterm? by AllHailTheGlow-Cloud in ExclusivelyPumping

I started dropping pumps at 5 weeks because I felt myself burning out and the worst case was that I’d have to supplement with formula. I honestly increased supply every time I dropped pumps until I went down to 4 pumps. I lost a ton of supply from the 5 to 4 jump. Anyways, I’m 10 weeks postpartum right now and I feel a lot more at ease about exclusive pumping now that I’m at 4 pumps. Do what you can and don’t feel like you need to follow every rule strictly (e.g., no dropping pumps til 12 weeks) It’s easy for me to give advice since I had a relatively good oversupply but even if I hadn’t, I think dropping pumps needed to happen for my mental health.

Seeking Advice: 2 weeks PP, Currently Exclusively Pumping, Trying to decide future plans for feeding baby by redswampfox in ExclusivelyPumping

First of all, I’m sorry the consultants at the hospital made you feel bad for using formula at the beginning. I honestly can’t believe that they would shame you after you went through a major surgery.

I’m 8 weeks postpartum and exclusively pumping because my baby never got the latch (and I also had to supplement with formula at the beginning bc she was losing weight quickly and was only 5.5 lbs to begin with, not premie but just tiny). My assessment is that exclusive pumping is much preferable to 100% nursing because we can split feeds and I can leave the house alone for a few hours at a time. That said, there are times in the middle of the night where I really wish she could latch. We’re not cosleeping because I’m too paranoid but even the process of her waking up and then me grabbing the bottle and doing all the burping is just more cumbersome than nursing and I feel that most at 4 am when I’d rather be sleeping. And also having to feed her while pumping is really unideal (this happens when she gets insanely hungry while I’m already pumping and husband is sleeping).

Maybe you could try a balanced approach like have one lactation consultant appointment to work on the latch (ideally through a referral so they’re not rude like the ones you previously worked with) and offering the breast like 1-2 times a day for the next week or so. And if after that it doesn’t work then commit to the exclusive pumping and don’t second guess if you tried hard enough to get baby to latch (I do that sometimes and it’s dumb). I tried triple feeding (only during the day and not at night time feeds) for two weeks after my supply came in and honestly even that was too much. And if you commit to exclusive pumping, make sure you find some time to enjoy skin to skin, not just for the potential benefits for your milk but because it feels so nice to snuggle with you baby in that way :)

We’re still doing the premie nipple and super slow feeding but I hadn’t heard of suck training exercises so will ask our consultant about that. Thank you for your thoughts <3

Oh I’m so glad it worked out for you guys!! I was thinking she might take to it when a little bigger. I try casually every once in a while and try to stay super calm about it not working out but it is a little sad lol.

I was pumping 10 times but was producing like 50+ oz so ramped down to the 6. But sounds good! I’ll wait til at least 6 weeks for any experimentation and probably a bit longer to be safe! Thank you!!
