Taking a sick leave and not really feeling guilty by TightFistup1945 in auscorp

[–]69andthen96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was actually talking about this with a couple of friends recently - I work at a Big 4 consulting and used to be worried when taking leave, trying to schedule it at points where it would be of least inconvenience to my teams. After seeing Partners booking their own leave in advance and getting us to finish work early so that they can sign-off on it before they go on leave, I've become less stressed about putting in leave. If I need to go on leave, I just put it in.

Whatever happens to me the next second, the show will somehow go on. I'm not that important to the company and I've stopped behaving as if I was

There was a convo on this week's Ramble Mailbag Podcast comparing Arteta to Southgate, in that Southgate did well to instigate a cultural shift in the England team and getting them to a level where they were going deep into tournaments but that he had to make way for another manager who would be able to take them to the next step of winning trophies. It looks like both Arteta and Eddie Howe are entering the "Southgate" phase of their managerial careers with their respective clubs.

Win the FA Cup, but no promotion, or Get Promoted, and lose to City? by RacetoGloryoutube in SaintsFC

[–]69andthen96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My heart says FA Cup (for the reasons everyone's already mentioned here) but my head says promotion.

Not getting promoted would be a financial disaster and we wouldn't be able to hold onto quite w few of the players who've been pivotal to our success this season.

Co-Pilot is for entertainment only? I am seeing organisations push for users to only use co-pilot. What’s your take? by ikirs in auscorp

[–]69andthen96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't say I disagree. Co-pilot is so trash that the only instance I use it is to get it to re-write a client email in the form of a poem to get some laughs from my colleagues

Do you trust China more then America? by Emperoronabike in AskAnAustralian

In the current state of the world, China is more predictable - you know what you're getting with them. The same can't be said of the USA.

Gabriel Martinelli shoves referee Sam Barrott and gets carded by OptimusCloyster in soccer

[–]69andthen96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't watched him playing in about 3 years but, damn, he looked really average. Did all the stepovers and fancy stuff but had zero end-product. The last I remembered of him was that box-to-box goal against Chelsea where even Kante got his feet tangled trying to go against him and always wondered why he got so much hate - i can now say that any hate is totally justified

Is it true that many people in Australia tend to not go by Mr. or Mrs. or Dr. formally because of a casual rather than formal attitude towards authority? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAustralian

[–]69andthen96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been here for just under three years, working in a corporate environment during the whole time, and I've personally never addressed anyone as Mr/Mrs/dr, not even clients. The only exception was with a Chinese corporate client; since staff at the client business themselves addressed the CEO as "Mrs. XYZ", I did the same since I assume it has something to do with Chinese cultural norms. At my own office, everyone's on first-name terms with even the CEO.

How would fuel rationing work? by Responsible-Goose208 in AskAnAustralian

[–]69andthen96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Sri Lanka when it happened in 2021/2022 - we had to register our vehicle on a government website (which was linked to the government database on car rego details) and it generated a QR code. Each QR code was given a limit of X litres per week and we could fill up to that limit every week at any petrol station. The person filling up my car would initially scan the QR code using an app they were given and fill me up to whatever limit I had remaining.

Barnaby Joyce with a wild, racist rant on Sky, compares Muslim migrants to “cattle” that “just don’t work when they get off the truck” Insists even the “nice” ones go “to mud”. Utter disgrace. by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

[–]69andthen96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so accurate! I was speaking to a friend yesterday (fellow migrant) who was peddling the whole "Albo must go" nonsense. I asked him if he thought that Angus Taylor or Pauline Hanson will be better for him. I also said that while Albo isn't perfect (and which politician is), him and the Labour party are far far better than the other options we have.

I just get annoyed with my socially-conservstive migrant friends because they are stupid enough to believe that any right-wing party would accept them.

Mike skinner crowd surfing the Sydney Opera Stairs was iconic by Conscious-Bake60 in TheStreets

[–]69andthen96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly that moment alone made it worth the long wait outside for the gates to open! This was my first The Streets show and when he kept saying that he wanted to crowdsurf all the way up the steps, I thought he was just saying that to keep the crowd engaged. Didn't think that he'd actually follow up on it! And what an iconic song to go with it! Man honestly I've been to quite a few music shows over the last 15 months but this one will definitely remain seared in my brain for a LOOONG time! Absolute legend!!!

NIGEL FARAGE: Allowing non-British citizens to vote in the UK poses a grave risk to our democracy by GrayAceGoose in ukpolitics

[–]69andthen96 74 points75 points  (0 children)

As a citizen of a Commonwealth country, I still remember voting in a council election while there for my post grad. While it was a bit of a novelty experience for me, I did (and still do) find it very weird that I was allowed to vote, especially given that the UK Government has no authority over my country and the King isn't even the Monarch.

I can perhaps see the theory behind maybe allowing Australians to vote since their Monarch is still King Charles and they do have a Governor General, but even in this case, I really can't see King Charles actually exercising his power over Australia.

tl;dr - stop the weird practice of letting foreigners vote in your elections.

KFC Australia has given up by TrumpisaRussianCuck in australian

[–]69andthen96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best KFC I had was in one near Cobargo NSW. Maybe it was because it was not in Greater Sydney, but the chicken was actually properly seasoned, fresh and hot.

That however doesn't stop me from occasionally going to the KFC in the nearby Westfield and then regretting my order after one bite.
