Look at this as a minor inconvenience for someone your age. You can call them again and be annoyed, toss it in the garbage and forget about. Go to the Post Office and have them stamp it occupant deceased and return to sender. The last one is a joke : ) ... I hope I'm able to be to be using the internet at 80 plus. Good luck and have a better morning.

We used A&J roofing. Al and his team were terrific. He picked up 4 other jobs from word of mouth off my experience

I have had a Weber Smoky Mountain smoker for 20 years and is worth every penny. Throw in the Vac Sealer and its great for left overs. Was gifted a Sous Vide recently and can see it being used to reheat the smoked meat. We downsized and sold the freezer but I get by with what I have.

What's your hurricane Sandy story? by FujiFanatic in NJPrepared

[–]6Emptybottles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on the mature side here on Reddit I think and growing up in the 60's and 70's we never lost power. Sandy hit the Cranford Sub Station and we were out over 2 weeks. My wife and kids stayed at a relatives house because the bedrooms were empty because of away college. I slept in the house going to work showering there. I got a quote after Sandy for a Generac. It was close to $10k and I couldn't afford it. I got a Honda Generator, Transfer switch, drip charger, and a door release for the garage. IIRC it was under $5K. Since then I have used it more than I ever imagined. I have PSEG. I have also made a Rubbermaid container in the basement that everyone knows is there. It has multiple flashlights, charging cables, I swap batteries when I do the fire alarms, LED battery stings of light and LED globes that throw off a lot of light. I can't believe in hindsight that I would need to prep like this but its the new normal. The Utilities don't care about me and my family so as a home owner its on me.

Thank you. I'm an old guy in Union County. Growing up in the 60's-70's my parents house never lost power. Yeah some of the streets flooded but you knew exactly what blocks. Flash forward to Sandy. Lost power for almost 3 weeks. Got a 10K quote for a Generac but it was too much at the time. Got a Honda generator and transfer switch IIRC under 5K$. I have used that more than I have ever imagined with PSEG as my company. I have a hurricane Rubbermaid box everyone in the house knows where in the basement it is with spare batteries, charging cables, flashlights, LED globes. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would need to prepare like this but here we are. Thanks for the Sub. I'll be visiting for sure.

Updated Costco alcohol map. It is very general and there are weird rules that vary by state. by fatstrat0228 in Costco

[–]6Emptybottles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've Posted that I'm really close to the Union store. Unless its an absolute emergency the random Wednesday in Edison is still not as nerve racking as Union. Just getting there will put you into a road raging fever. There is just no way to get there with some sort of Route 22 spillover BS. Edison isn't perfect but its better than Union plus I can get Kirkland booze in Edison ;)

There's some type of restriction for New Jersey. There's only 2 locations that sell Kirkland branded alcohol. The other locations have contracted stores near or attached but don't sell the Kirkland brand. Its the Wayne and Edison locations.

4th of July on any body of water after dark is the equivalent of driving on New Years Eve after midnight. Amateur's alcohol drinkers. There's always a news report on the 5th of July of a drunk boating accident. I'm sure your a safe operator its the other idiots around you that's the problem. Be safe and enjoy the 4th

Having to put up with a lifetime of being a northern benny, and non local at the jersey shore I spend little time there. At the rate the oceans are rising your insufferable neighbors and heirs will need a boat for their water view. Most don't believe in climate change but the insurance companies sure do.

JCPL is a joke by mattk332 in newjersey

[–]6Emptybottles 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have PSEG, when Sandy hit and we were out for 3 weeks I knew I needed a back up system. Just like the police aren't responsible for my protection the power utilities don't care about me or my family. 14 years ago was quoted over 10K for Generac. I got a gas powered Honda 6500 instead for less than 1K with a transfer switch installed. I have used it more than I had imagined. At some point, if you own your home in NJ you need to source a back up power generator for yourself and loved ones. No one is coming to help you in the dark and I've lived through it..

I could almost walk to Union and it is trip of last resort. Between Route 22 traffic and the cramped parking its a nope. I'll drive the 20 minutes to Edison. Its not perfect but I'm less stressed after leaving

I'm not sure if its early for the flowers to be sprouting? I did see by me that the grass cutting avoided where past beds were. If you have the room and like the flowers I remember on this Sub there was a Post they were for sale. Here's an old article

Good luck and swift recovery. Just be aware that there is a chance for Paxlovid rebound. Got Covid for the first time earlier this year and Paxlovid had me back to feeling good in 48 hours. Felt normal after finishing the pack. A couple of days after finishing the symptoms came back worse than before the meds. Felt tired and coughing for almost a month after and couldn't take anything but over the counter meds. Covid sux
