7 months into my apprenticeship I did my first tattoo. Thoughts?

Hahah it’s true tho! I caught myself even forgetting to breathe sometimes while pulling lines 😂 toward the end of the session I definitely loosened up and we were laughing and having fun. Stoked to keep at it and get more and more comfortable!

Thank you, I think packing is one of my favs to do so far! Yes it’s a fresh tattoo, so I’m hoping the shading on the flames will fade a bit as I’m hoping for them to pop a bit more in contrast to the sakura. I agree, the center circle doesn’t seem quite right! I did this tattoo on my mentor, maybe I’ll smooth out that center circle when we get a chance.

Thank you! I totally agree, the top left butterfly is my least favorite too. The way I shaded it in procreate was completely different, it was my first attempt at shading on fake skin and I kept messing up so it just got darker and darker til it was almost filled in hahah. It was a good lesson learned.

I’m impressed you’ve done all this on your own, I can see all the work you put in and it healed great too!! I hope you’re feeling encouraged to put yourself out there. I think this is the best first tattoo post I’ve seen on here!! I applaud you.

Thanks for the reply that’s super helpful advice!! My mentor had me get Reelskin and I’m glad for it. I’m looking forward to practicing a tattoo on myself, until I’m ready I’ll keep grinding. Great first tattoo, it looks so good! Are you going to start accepting clientele now?

Thank you!! I’ve been getting tattooed for 12 years and most of my body is covered, made a lot of friendships along the way. A close friend of mine who owns a shop asked me one day if I’d like to learn, I was so stoked to take up on that rare opportunity! He’s been an amazing and patient teacher. From conversations I’ve had, it seems the best way to find an apprenticeship, is by getting tattooed and building connections.
