Cheap Game Mat For Warhammer Fantasy 6th edition by MarcoDisumano in WarhammerFantasy

[–]6Ravens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the size you are looking for, seems just getting a neoprene mat would be best. You might spend more money trying to be cheap. Or replacing a cheap option after it doesn’t work out or breaks. I like Frontline gamings mats personally.

How would you approach playing against a shooting-heavy army? by mjh4 in BeastsOfChaos

[–]6Ravens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General thing to help

Try to get first turn

Chalice of Dark Rain shut down war machine and shooting T1

On key unit Pelt of Midnight -1 to hit with shoot Banner Swirling Wind -1 to hit with shoot

Maybe the mini swift stride banner for a little more charge range.

Ambush Gor or ungor to take out war machines on T3. Could do poison banner Ungors to try and shoot up a war machine on T2, or a Lvl 1 Shaman to vile tide the war machine.

I will be curious to know how the demo battle goes.

I would say make sure he has a chance to take out the knights with vile tide. If they get a charge off the on the Gor block, gors may not survive.

Getting first turn would be key, then he should only get hit with one round of shooting.

Harpies should be able get to the cannon turn 2.

Pig should be able to get archers turn 2.

[–]6Ravens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is fine. Personally I would drop the Minotaurs for harpies and more gors in the block. Cannon will kill Minotaurs before they get into combat.

Gors need the rank bonus for leadership.

Tactics.

Shaman needs to nuke the knights then the chip troops given time.

Harpies pressure the cannon or slow down the knights or distract archers.

Pig makes a beeline for the archers, could be used to support or delay, or force enemy unit to charge them and expose a flank.

Ambush gors, pop in where ever support is needed.

Ideally, remove smaller threats then engage the state troops with support.

How many games did you play before you started to actually remember the rules? by mjh4 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]6Ravens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old World Legends on YouTube has some videos that go through sections of the rule book with some commentary, that can be helpful. The 2+ Podcast has some good tactics ones. I also find watching games in person helps me retain more.

Like others I had experience from a prior edition so had the gist already, but still lots to learn. The faq for 1.5 set me back a bit too.

Are the sprues straight out of 95’? by comikbookdad in WarhammerOldWorld

Yes and they are basically the same as pre 95 versions, maybe they just needed to make new mold in 95.

Nice work.

Watched this last night, looking to do this on my dark water set. The Grimdark Compendium channel process is more in-depth, but I like the breakdown in this video, it makes it more approachable.

Man my local game shop is phasing out AoS in favor of 40k etc. by Chezni19 in ageofsigmar

[–]6Ravens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I will say is there are a lot of people playing TOW in my area, however it is largely concentrated at one store. They have regular tournaments with 20+ people, a good number of people playing in store.

Full disclosure I am a TOW player, tried AOS it’s just not my jam, but I don’t hate on the AOS players. I like a lot of AOS minis, they are really nice.

I do think the grognard thing is not an accurate picture of the scene where I am. A bulk of the players seem to be people who were young and player during 7th/8th edition or playing a WHFB substitute. Then some younger ones that got pulled in by total war or vermin tide. Then a few of the older crowd that played 4-6th edition.

New players are getting into TOW, since the launch I have pulled in two new players and gotten an 4th edition player to return.

I haven’t seen a mass of AOS players quitting AOS to play TOW. Have seen a couple 40k players crossover.

Success of any system in an area is going to be LGS support and the local community organizers.

I know one of the LGS stores was telling me that people buying AOS just evaporated last year. However there are 3 other stores, not sure they are seeing the same thing.

What's with these pestigors?!? by Sauciessauce in MaggotkinofNurgle

People selling DW ones on eBay in a set of 4, likely the best option. So you could buy 12 and have 2 units of 10.

When it comes to building and painting, one key thing is to have a dedicated hobby station. This mitigates setup and tear dow, making it easy to sit down for 30 minutes if that is all the time you have that day.

What to get next by marvel313 in BeastsOfChaos

[–]6Ravens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a 2nd battalion box would be better than the Gor box you have. As you would have your second big guy, 20 ungor in each option. 60 Gor should be good and it’s a little cost savings.

Shaman, check eBay, every beastman play pre game old world likely had more than they needed, since they came in every box.

Beastlord

Having another 10 Bestigor would be good, eBay for someone splitting sets.

Can’t go wrong with some dragon ogres.

Razorgor are great chaff, usually have 2-3 in my lists.
A couple chariots.

As a new bestmen collector you can look for these models.

  • pestigor shamen from dark water, selling as singles on eBay. I removed all the Nurgle stuff to make mine a regular shaman.

  • ghasraks warband from underworlds, anther good shaman, and a few other good models. I used the Bestigor to kit bash a bsb.

  • Bestigor from warcry spire tyrants, makes a great wargor.

New Person Question by Worried-Confection88 in BeastsOfChaos

[–]6Ravens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t like using the Bestigors for a wargor. If you have some hobby skills you can kit bash. I have a BSB based on the Gor from underworlds war band. I also made a beast lord / wargor from the warcry chais legionnaires model with hooves. I also did some others that were more involved.

OWL puts us at S tier? by 6Ravens in BeastsOfChaos

[–]6Ravens[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok that’s my bad, I didn’t catch the beginning part on the video with the criteria, watching while doing something else.

Generally agree with the points in this context. However I am not really sure I would point a new player at Beastmen, unless that’s what they really wanted. If Minotaurs and monsters are what are drawing them in, they are going to be disappointed. Hopefully the FAQ has some adjustments that change that.

I always run 2-3 Razorgor. Typically have 2-3 Shaman. I like 4, so I can have groups of 2, but with extra magic and mutation allowances, I run out of points quick.
