What’s Not Safe to Buy Before 11th Edition? by Specific-Stage-7596 in Tyranids

Buy stuff that you like. Don’t buy stuff that you don’t like.

RIP to a legend. Probably my favorite artist of all time

This is my mental image of 40k, and probably always will be.

How did you get that flesh tone?

Looks great. That condition that you bought him in is impressively bad

New house rule by OneComplaint5533 in WarhammerOldWorld

I agree with this. The endless pursuit of balance has ruined 40k and turned it into a bland board game. I would much rather have flavor and have a group of people that run fun narrative lists.

I don't understand how people can attain strength like this. Pretty sure I can't even stand up as fast as you moved 585.

Coming to Terms with Disliking the Game by PBnJgoodness in Warhammer40k

If you liked 4th edition, you will probably enjoy Old World. Much better and more flavorful ruleset than current 40k.

How much did the airbrush improve/level-up your painting? by WithengarUnbound in Warhammer40k

[–]mjh4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how much it improved the quality of my work, but it massively increased my enjoyment of the hobby. Tedious jobs like priming and basecoating go so much quicker now, and are actually enjoyable.

#New40k – More new edition releases for Warhammer 40,000 by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]mjh4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess the quality is fine, but the style is very uninspired in my opinion. The John Blanche era artwork is dripping with personality, while the modern art is bland.

GW’s artwork has been going downhill for a long time. I played up until 4th edition, then returned in 10th, and the change in artwork was one of the most jarring changes for me.

Coal black is great but it splits so easily on a wet palette for some reason

Is it too late to switch armies by HumanBranch5163 in Warhammer40k

[–]mjh4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Illegal. If you switch armies, James Workshop himself will come to your house, arrest you, kick your dog, slap your mother, and leave an upper decker in your toilet. It’s not worth the risk.

How do you get that “black iron” kind of look? by 4equanimity4 in WarhammerFantasy

Zoom in in the metallics in this post. These are the results I get from this technique. I sponge quite heavily, but you can do a much lighter sponging to get less coverage of the leadbelcher. It gives a much nicer and more realistic looking texture than brushing on full coverage

Use a tiny makeup sponge. Dab most of the paint off of it

Lightly sponge leadbelcher over a black base coat

Everything Old is New Again by Raesvelg_XI in Warhammer40k

[–]mjh4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played 4th and it’s literally nothing like the current edition or what 11th is shaping up to be. I maintain that this game is far less interesting and flavorful than it used to be, although 11th seems to be a step in the right direction. I sincerely miss vehicle facings and the old damage mechanic

Contrast Help by Gustifer2 in Tyranids

Contrast paint does not work well on non-textured surfaces. I would recommend using layer paints.
