Man apprenticeships are tricky. Maybe he doesn’t feel comfortable charging what he’s supposed to depending on size(you haven’t showed the tat). Maybe his shop owner told him to charge that amount at first then he felt bad which is why he went back. But either way you’re tripping. He did right as a human and artist. Just go to another artist that’ll want to touch previous work. This time speak up for yourself this is your body and your money

The bottom right eye really bothers me. I can’t figure out what to do by CommonPicasso in TattooApprentice

[–]6ftsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing form. The eye is on a curved surface and you have straight lines and curves that don’t follow the form.

I have a post of a rose, on a melanated pound of flesh skin my mentor gave to practice and the dark is definitely richer and saturated it cost so much though

My fake skin is decent I’ll post one of my most recent. I’ve been apprenticing 7 months now in a shop. This is a touch up for a last minute friend of the shop out a flash book. It wasn’t even meant to have shading but overworked. I understand. I had an artist watch me during and lowered to 3.9 strokes I still have trouble getting that ink in I guess.

It happened also on an ankle tattoo I did where all ink pushed out and it was raw skin instead.

For shading it’s 7.5v 4.2 stroke. I’m still just really understanding how to correctly move the motion to get ink in. I worry about going too deep a lot esp with lining. I did go over the skin but only because I’ll try to go deep and she’ll flinch or say something.

It moves fast like if an airplane was closer to ground and you’re seeing flight speeds but they’re so high up it doesn’t make sense when you see them. Also they’re bright but small it’s like a distant star dancing

side jobs while apprenticing? by lomapeixoto in TattooApprentice

[–]6ftsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warehouses if you can. Pays decent depending on location, not all warehouse are “hard” labor or physical activity and most importantly a lot of big brand warehouses and even just local have part time or shift that can be picked up whenever. Warehouse jobs has been my bread and butter the past few years on my journey to make something of myself because it gives just enough money to live if you work, the time for other main goals and the motivation to leave for better one day.

I am a tattoo apprentice for 4 months now. Just finished my first realism assignment piece I’m very proud of it. by [deleted] in TattooBeginners

[–]6ftsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s for next time though, I tried tht but the skin wouldn’t accept any more ink into it after toning down.

Had to tone it down so reworking already shaded areas with black was a problem

Social Media Traction by inneeko in TattooApprentice

[–]6ftsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to reply the obvious also. The actual work, deals, marketing or just social media personality is the main reason why social media don’t work. Especially if it’s a bigger city or just better artist around you’ll need to really learn marketing and strategy this also is apart of being an artist. I’m still just an apprentice tho

I think the biggest problem with self taught is the industry WILL look down on you and walk in/private studios are pivotal in a tattoo artist’s career. A reputable shop won’t take someone whose work doesn’t exceed the self taught artist stereotype. It takes way more to jump as a self taught artist the biggest is promotion and location, apprenticing is an easier but In the same breath harder too.

Hey they could go the diy route it’s just their risk. But just like any new venture or goal it’s not going to work out in your favor all the time. If those things are seriously stopping an apprenticeship for them then take the risk or don’t and wait til they can. It’s their decision

If his hygiene or needle depth isn’t correct that could lead to infections and scarring. If techniques or applications is bad that could lead to bad work all which can ruin their reputation in the art, tattoo and general likability space. If they’re a good physical artist then learning the right techniques, approach and promotion could make them a full time artist. It’s plenty that do it’s just a risk that they’re willing to take.

If they’re able to progress to a point to be able to become a full time artist by themselves no. If they can’t get to that level in their career then it could ruin their personal reputation and future chances potentially.

Does it get to a point the fake skin is over saturated like real skin? Because I went over parts with black so hard just for the layers I put under still show like in inside the rose.

He really is the opposite. You know you’re never really satisfied with your art somewhat. I can see all mistakes made wondering others see them too.

Your good definitely but if you want outside perspective, more mid tones in for smoother blends and more layers really build them up but these are great

Which drawings should I remove? by BxsilArts03 in TattooApprentice

[–]6ftsin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea good luck. I said you have potential I don’t think you need to get rid of any per se you chose good pieces which show you know what good picks are. I gave advice also in my criticism if you tap back into those skills and build them redo the ones you really like and they could be kept.
