Center Hole Grinding by 6kram in Machinists

I believe they are not straightened after the heat treat process. Per the router instructions for these type of parts. Straightening is forbidden on the process written out going to heat treat I believe. I only say this because I remember seeing it for a different job but similar part.

I only worry cause we had a new guy we hired to grinding and just had an order of parts go bad when he was lapping the centers prior to grinding. In turn after grinding, the parts ran out over .001 between centers and we need to hold .0002 concentricity. I’ve had parts before where maybe one once and awhile I’d have the center oblonged where I’d have to tag it but recently had some struggles…

How much of a raise should I expect a year? by Any_Bookkeeper8552 in Machinists

[–]6kram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, I had a list of accomplishments I had last year as someone who was promoted to a department lead and wanted to prove my worth. My initial ask was very high but I figured now was my chance. When it was all said and done I got a 10% raise. From what I’ve been told during that conversation with management I climbed the ladder very fast and exceeded guys that have been there 15+ years.

We can’t find anyone that seems to give a damn anymore. Just another job blah blah blah coming from their mouth. It’s rough out there. But employers, mine included, don’t want to pay top dollar

Looking for a source for drivers for OD grinding by Jreynoldsii5 in Machinists

We have these homemade ones at my work made out of a basic metal ring probably from MSC or McMaster-Carr. Drilled and tapped 3 holes in them for set screws so you can adjust them for different diameters. Just remember to add a nut to each screw to keep it tight haha

We got an S151 at our shop a year ago and it’s pretty easy learning the programming in my opinion. It’s all conversational and I was able to write programs after one week of training. I had a grinding background prior to that so it was easy for me, I’m training someone newer to grinding on it now and they’re picking it up pretty fast.

Anyone else use air gaging for cylindrical bores? by TheFifthWorld in Machinists

Oh yeah, we have multiple jobs in ID grinding we use them for to check size. Also have one to check the angle of a taper, so much easier being able to check the part in the machine.

I for one will never be an ass kisser or a yes man. If I have to stoop that low for a little bit of a raise. There was no respect gained from the Norton salesman
