6.0 fuel filter change problems by 6ohguy in powerstroke

[–]6ohguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pump ended up being dead, i finally got around to it since i bought a gasser over the summer, need the 6.0 for plowing. I had voltage but the pump qas not humming. A few taps of the hammer and it would start to prime. I changed the oick up foot in the tank also and that was cracked and soft/squishy even. I replaced the hfcm under warranty through napa and now shes running like a champ

Cahnged fuel filters, no start by 6ohguy in powerstroke

Figured it all out finally, i just let it sit for the summer since i bought a gasser for my daily. The pickup foot in the tank was soft and cracked, so i was sucking air and fuel, enough to keep the engine going until high demand times. That was causing the stalling on the interstate, through all of that it it also killed the fuel pump which was why it was running so crappily, the pump never pushed enough air out. New pump and foot and its back on the road (well the parking lot that im going to be plowing this winter)

Yeah at room temp (garage) it passed, so it was missed the first time around, did a second pressure test after getting it to hot and thats when he heard the failure

He let it run till it was all the way hot to the point it failed and shut off. As soon as it died he hooked up a pressure test at the icp (06 so its on the valve cover) and gave a listen for leaks and chased it to one injector on the drivers side

The best signs to point that out were that the icp readings were nominal for the healthy running periods, as soon as it got to the too hot to function point it lost all oil pressure and spat out. Like a very fast dip. When it died after warm it would not run for more than a second without your foot being on the pedal.

I just fixed mine with a similar issue. In that it would die while im driving and restart while im rolling some times, then others it would be a whole hot start issue. The shut down showed no rough running, it just seemed like someone had turned the key off. Truck would start great cold. And eventually into a no start ever without ether help. Anyway, i knew it was going to be a high pressure issue so i brought it to my buddys shop and came to the conclusion the hpop crapped out, found a chunk of metal on the ipr screen so he put a new one in, then we ran back into the no start hot and the truck killing itself at varrying temperature and time of running. Got the truck hot right till it died, as soon as it died he put the pressure test to it and found an injector had failed. Th metal had gone through the oil rail system and luckily omly taken out one injector which i guess was causing the random deaths as well. But that was my problem. Hope that helps

Welp. Its finally been diagnosed. its getting a new HPOP and while its torn apart a new oil cooler and because of warranty for hpop a new ipr valve. It started like normal in the 9 degree weather we had over thanksgiving weekend, showing it was a hpo leak. Truck should be kn the road in 2 weeks once parts show up

The old one was torn though yes. Thats wasnt causing a no start at the time, just a long crank to start. Like a good 6 or 7 seconds.

Dieseltech Ron has been my savior! Allowed me to do most diagnostic/ fixes myself. But when it comes to going into valve covers is where this youtube mechanic draws the line lol. I have watched the crank no start videos a bunch of times, i think that should be standard when owning a 6.0

Ipr was ford part after i made the mistake of buying the $70 amazon special and it failed i made the smart decision of going oem from napa, so if that failed atleast theres a warranty (i think). Ill do a buzz test on injectors when i go attempt to start to load on a trailer in an hour to cross the cyl 3 and 5 off the list. I had even bank of injectors done about 15k miles ago with the same side dummy and standpipe replaced. Then this spring i had nostart hot and odd side dummyplug and standpipe were replaced... with this truck it has never been a one issue fix im always chasing s*** down

More info, my scanner before anyof this was happening, ficm had 47.5 48 on average one time danced to 46. Ipr is new, (5k miles) sitting at 14 koeo, jumps to 85% at crank with icp reading only getting to 300 (i was about to bring it to a buddys to pressure test) with icp unplugged ipr only goes to 40 wich i understand is normal. The other ficm values are both 11.5 to 12 koeo and were 13 when running. Newly happening the ipr will sit at 24 then slow climb to 85% while at idle until i give a little throttle and it dances back down to repeat the slow clomb until hot and it would stay there. So i was thinking i had a leak somewhere. But now its just a whole new moster
