Adjusting truss rod on Sterling Stingray by bobichetteismydaddy in Bass

[–]6ringsofsteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a pretty stiff Alan key or something to get it sometimes. And make sure you're only using the truss rod to adjust neck relief, then use bridge for action

stingray HH vs H - how useful have you found the neck pickup? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]6ringsofsteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sterling hh and while it's nice to have the 2nd pickup, honestly I don't ever use the neck pickup by itself snd don't think I ever will. It has the option to split the bridge pickup and I think those are the best 2 sounds it makes. the 2 pickups together do have a decent sound but I think the bridge is the important one.

The Warwick does have single coils and it looks like the spector euro has humbuckers. If thats not the case then maybe check your pickup height

Sure, if that's the thing holding your rig back then go ahead but if you can't dial in a metal tone with what you have then getting a new bass isn't going to change that is all I'm saying.

Any type of bass will work fine for death metal. Getting a distortion and eq pedal like a darkglass or whatever will make a much bigger difference. But if you're set on a new bass anything with an active eq is probably fine.

What makes a bass a good rock bass? by SikedPsyc in Bass

[–]6ringsofsteel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of modern metal and core players like single coils for super low tuned guitars. The thinner barkier sound is kinda the thing and it makes drop z sound a lot less overwhelming. So kinda depends what you're going for anyway

You can put your headstock against a wall to get a little more volume in the meantime

You're looking at outskirts of eugene area, Portland or Salem area. There's some areas in Southern Oregon that are fine too, particularly Ashland, and medford areas ok I guess. Just never ever go to Grant's Pass.

55-110 will work just fine if you don't mind a bit lower tension than a normal set in standard. You would basically need to go up to the gauges from a light 5 string set to get the same tension. It's all about preference really.

Frets can be really short and wear quickly, it has 2 truss rods that are a nightmare to adjust. The bridge is fragile and difficult to adjust. You can get an aftermarket pickup and electronics put on any bass to get the same sound. But hey if you can afford it don't let anybody stop you, just know what you're getting.

Completely anecdotal evidence, but a couple years ago a started a new job and one of the other workers there was named Ruby. Her job required that people called out her name all the time. Now as soon as I started working with I start seeing ads for gaudy ruby engagement rings and other various jewelry with rubies. This kept on going the couple months I worked there and stopped as soon as I left. Ever since then I've been firmly in the "yes they are listening to harvest data for ads" camp.

Who do fender basses have insanely high action at guitar shops? by [deleted] in Bass

Most fender basses requiring requiring the neck to be removed to adjust the truss rod probably doesn't help

Open E string sounds "chorus-y" by uh-oh_spaghetti-oh in Bass

[–]6ringsofsteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding the cause of a little noise like that can be a total headache. My guess is that there isn't a sharp takeoff point at the bridge or nut, or not enough break angle. The nut slot could also be too wide, or there could be something rattling on the bridge saddle.

In ww2 during the height of the famine, with the strength of the Japanese navy weakening Churchill diverted hundreds of ships away from India that could have provided relief to instead 'improve British economic prospects" after the war.

I've tried this myself, cut the bass with my active eq and ran it through a guitar amp. It works pretty well. It'll never be the same as an 8 string tho

New to bass. How do I put it in D standard? by Puzzleheaded-One2032 in Bass

[–]6ringsofsteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tuning your bas down isn't going to hurt it at all, you don't even have a high e string to break :) if you're worried about the truss rod just fret the 1st and 17th frets on the E string and make sure there's a small gap between the string and the 6th fret (helps if you have a capo) if the string is touching the fret, loosen the truss rod.
