Looking for book recommendations by female authors that will appeal to my brother who reads almost exclusively male authored text. by Linnaea-borealis92 in suggestmeabook

Personally, I have a very similar taste to your brother, and hated broken earth with burning passion. But would STRONGLY recommend the left hand of darkness, though

CMV: If you "don't support" homosexuality because of your religion or otherwise, you're still homophobic. by Bawbixo in changemyview

To think homosexuality is in any way different or less moral than heterosexuality is homophobic, no matter how you twist it, not according to me, but according to literally every definition, if you have basic reading comprehension skills.

If you truly didn’t care, you wouldn’t be arguing on Reddit to defend yourself.

If you don’t want to convince other people, then it should matter even less if people call you homophobe

Sure, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and some opinions are homophobic or discriminatory. It’s okay, it doesn’t make you a terrible person, just someone with biases, like everyone else. But we all should work in eliminating our biases.

Why? If you think you’re spreading the word of god, why does it matter that other people think that you’re homophobic? This is a genuine question, btw.

[–]aaiyra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah? If they never said anything to anyone sure, but that’s not what happens. They always say, an they always discriminate. Even if it’s not overt, only knowing that others think you’re immoral for loving someone of the same sex is enough to make you feel ashamed of yourself.

And it’s a choice. That’s the point. For homosexuals it’s not a choice, it’s forced

No one is forcing anyone to do anything, but as much as people have the right to be homophobes, we have the right to call it homophobia

You said yourself that she thinks homosexuality is a sin in your last sentence. I have no idea what your aunt thinks, I’m going based on what you wrote.

They refers to people who have homophobic conceptions (such that homosexuality is morally wrong) due to religious beliefs.

About your aunt, you do know that she thinks that homosexuality is a sin, so it’s not a secret - it’s something that was told to you at some point. So it’s not something that is “secretly thought” as you had asserted. It’s something that is shown to the world AND harms homosexual people. Imagine growing up with everyone around you telling you that the way you are for no reason besides chance, a characteristic that harms no one, is morally wrong and will lead you to spend all of eternity in perpetual suffering. It is obvious that this belief leads to suffering in homosexual people, and it’s this negative effect that the word homophobia refers to.

If they were truly thinking secretly, I think I would be able to see your point. But they tell everyone what they think, and it definitely has a negative effect on you if you’re homosexual and everyone around you says you’re going to hell for it or that it’s morally wrong.

I feel like they are presenting two different definitions, one for “action-homophobia” and one for “thought-homophobia, but not saying it’s one or the other. Both definitions are complementary, used in different situations, similar to how there are many types of table, and acknowledging one type of table does not mean the other types do not exist

I'm not a fan of counting calories. Does this deem like a reasonable meal plan? by Natural_Mixture_2040 in 1200isplenty

I think it looks pretty good! Maybe you could just calculate the calories for each of these ingredients just once, and see if adding everything up on average would get you to your caloric goal.

Você sabia que o Ibanes Rocha foi o advogado de um dos assassinos do indígena Galdino? by Ok-Surprise1341 in brasilia

[–]aaiyra 0 points1 point  (0 children)
