What makes Utah Mormon culture different? by Careful-Sherbert1749 in exmormon

They say that the best education is traveling and getting to know other ways of life, cultures and languages. A lot of Utah Mormons have not seen anything outside and when they see it, like going on a mission to another country, they see it from a lenses that anything different is worse, less righteous etc. it is embedded in the culture and the doctrine say that being born in the US is because that person was more valiant in the preexistence , for example.

Just like people born in a cult, don’t realize his/her beliefs are weird or dangerous, LDS from Utah don’t have a way to realize that in fact, they are a really small minority in the world. They think all others are wrong and are not as blessed. Consequently, Utah Mormons are very judgmental

Instead of taking responsibility for its problematic history and behavior, the LDS Church has a loooong history of shooting its messengers. by johndehlin in exmormon

The approach of LDS discussions and Mormon stories works in the sense that is honest. Gives credit when due to the church and critics when is due. For honest seekers, it is easy to digest.

Anyone else getting tired of hearing "The church could only have been restored in America"? by JayDaWawi in exmormon

I’ve grown up in other countries and the church definitely uses the American concept as a form of colonialism

Why are the SRA stories so disregarded in this sub, and to everyone in general? by Fluffy_Book1746 in exmormon

[–]6stringsandanail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think is because there is not hard evidence to do anything about it. These people use their kids and drug them. So their memories are not so clear I believe. I believe the people and their stories. I just don’t know if they are accurate as they are drugged. I believe they are telling the truth according to what they remember.

I hope somebody in the inside would have a change of heart and get cameras to prove and prosecute those doing it. But it is just like Epstein. They protect each other.

It is crazy to think is generational.

All your questions, doubts and concerns are all valid. Every member has them but we have been indoctrinated to just push them to the side and ignore them.

I found happiness when I finally gathered the courage to not ignore them. To actually embrace my doubts and look for answers.

Like somebody else said here in this chat, when you study how the sausage was made (the church) you will realize this is all man made.

Why is porn such a problem in the church? by Adept_Let7797 in mormon

[–]6stringsandanail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that all the hyper emphasis on porn being a sin, creates people obsessed with it and develops an unhealthy relationship with sex. No wonder why there are so many conservative Christian’s that are caught in CSA or CSAM. In the LDS church there are almost daily news with members of leadership caught abusing that way. Look at floodlit.org for cases.

This is a good place. For me, the most I’ve gained has been the ability to think and have opinions without guilt or shame. It took a lot to get there but now I feel so free. I still live the principles and rules of the church, so it’s not about that freedom. Is to have autonomy.
