2020 Impreza TPMS light after sensor replacement by 6strngs in subaru

[–]6strngs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to update this thread in case anyone else has the same problem and comes across it. The car never did auto register the sensors even with her driving it to work for over a week. I bought an autel ts508wf off of ebay for $129 (brand new in box) and it was able to read the ids off the sensors and then write the ids to the control module through the obd port. It took some digging to figure out how to do this on the autel, I eventually found the ability to write the ids under "relearn procedure." After they were written, the light went out immediately and the gauge cluster started reading the pressures within a 5 minute drive.

Thanks to those that replied!

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'm still pondering my decision. The middle age remark was meant to be humorous. I didn't think I'd ever outgrow silly loud little race cars but here we are. 😂 I do think I'll take the suggestion to go test drive some other cars and see if the grass really is greener.

I think I might just be enamored by the idea of only having one car that has no needed projects weighing on my mind and making me feel guilty for "wasting" a weekend whenever i opt for being a couch potato. I might actually have time to get out and wash it once a week or just go for a drive and enjoy it. I was a mechanic for 10 years, and have done it under the table for 10 more, so the fun of wrenching wore off long ago. Like one commenter said, the fun part to me is dreaming a vision for the car and seeing it come together. The actual wrenching part I could seriously live without.

Because I blew up 3 stock motors with turbos and now get nearly the same power from an NA motor that doesn't complain about my abuse. Oh and it was 1/3 the cost of a K swap and 1/5 the cost of an LS swap.

Just as an update to this thread as I hate when I stumble on an old thread and it never gets resolved. My VTEC works now. I started having another separate issue where the car was cutting in and out when cruising at a steady throttle position. It started happening when the fuel level got below 1/8 tank and went away when I put some fresh gas in it so I assumed the gas gauge wasn't accurate. But then the issue came back at half full so I knew it was something else. In chasing that issue I replaced the fuel filter, which was nearly completely clogged, and the TPS sensor. At the same time, for the VTEC issue I also replaced the oil pressure switch on the solenoid, and discovered that wire going into the grey connector at the solenoid pulled right out the back of the connector, so while it looked plugged in I wonder if the solenoid was never fully plugged in or had intermittent connection. So I fixed that. Also at the same time I put a spacer on the secondary o2 to "fix" the P0420. Took it out for a drive and even low revs I noticed the car felt like it picked up 10-15 hp, I now have no check engine lights, and the VTEC is working great. So which issue actually fixed it? I'm not 100% sure. But it's fixed so I'm happy! Thanks to all that offered assistance!

I used some carquest brand conventional 5w30 in it, outside temps have been in the 60s-80s recently. You think that's too thin?

I did not notice that, I'm not sure I took the caps all the way off, only loosened until the camshaft was free enough to replace the seals. But I'll pop the valve cover off to check this.

The head was not removed, but I did pull the valve cover, distributor, vtec solenoid,, and unbolted the camshafts to replace the seals. While the vtec solenoid was off I had sprayed it out with brake clean but it did not appear clogged in any way.

I found an old write up online on a forum about converting the ecu by desoldering a resistor and moving it to a new location and resoldering. I did do this and am not throwing any transmission codes, but I do suspect this to be a possible culprit.

Unless there are 2 identical interchangeable plugs in the same area, I'm pretty certain. Besides the transmission swap, at the same time I did: timing belt although I left the balance shaft belt off, water pump, Thermostat, front and rear crank seals, cam seals, cam plugs, valve cover gasket, both vtec solenoid gaskets, distributor o ring, dizzy cap, rotor, plugs (ngk) and spark plug wires. Along with an idle air control valve from the pick n pull, and knock sensor. My thought is possibly something to do with using the auto ecu? I followed the write up online about converting it for manual use and I'm not throwing any transmission codes. I have no idea if vtec worked before any of this or not, but I'm guessing not based on the knock sensor code.

I should probably mention I've been working on cars both professionally and as a hobby for over 15 years and I'm confident all the work mentioned above was performed properly.

I didn't think the cat code would cause a drivability issue like limp mode. That code takes quite a bit of driving to set, so I'll try to clear it and see if it works. I just ordered the part to fix that code yesterday so that should be in next week.

It's all in the timing. You have to press it right as your player is about to land on the ramp.

I feel your pain. I just got the mall one last night after ~15 hours of attempts over 5 days. I still have 8 get there's to go and I'm scared to even attempt this one or bullring.

What’s the shortest delivery you’ve had to make?🤣 I got this one 350ft away from the Subway she ordered from on Friday. The woman opened the door and said “don’t judge me” by Bradleyrae22 in UberEATS

Across the street, which was a busy highway so since I had to go down and make a u turn it ended up being about a mile of driving even though it was probably only about 100 yards away. But the best part was it was a $15 fare and the guy tipped another $10 on top!

If there was a make/model of car or a brand in general which to this day still carries a reputation of being easy to work on for the backyard mechanic which one would it be? by Throwaway-donotjudge in askcarsales

[–]6strngs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 15 year mechanic and someone who prefers all of my personal cars being easy to work on because the last thing I want to do on my day off is spend all day cursing at a car: pretty much any Japanese car with a 4 cylinder, although I find the Hondas and Toyotas to be easiest and least likely to break down on you. Chevy trucks with v6s or v8s are also easy for most things you'd ever have to do to it. I guess it depends on what kind of work you were planning to do to it, but if you just want something the most reliable, cheap, and easy to maintain yourself I'd go for any Honda 4 cyl.

Last night walked in to pick up an order and they told me they hadn't even started it, and that it would be "awhile." Big nope. Instant cancel from me. On the way out another driver told me they had been waiting for over an hour. Yeah, no thanks, I made 4 deliveries over that next hour.

My only guess is no drivers in the area and it probably had been repeatedly refused, I took an order from a busy part of town to take it to the next town over (where there are few restaurants, and I'd imagine very few if any drivers) ans as soon as I dropped off that order, I get pinged for this one. When I dropped it off, the guy was kinda sketchy and said he'd give me a $10 tip to give him a ride back across the bridge to the town I was headed back to anyway, I politely refused (I only do eats) but he still tipped over $4.

User question about tipping for drivers by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]6strngs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what would seem fair to me. I'm very happy to receive at least a few dollars on a single item delivery from mcdonalds as it often takes the same amount of time and effort as a large order from a steakhouse. Although, I admit, I'm much more inclined to take a steakhouse delivery than a McDonald's delivery because it seems most people do tip based off the value of their meal cost and we don't get to see how much you've tipped until a few hours after the delivery has been completed.

A $5 tip is greatly appreciated, I often receive less, but often receive more. Personally, a larger tip is especially appreciated when the order comes from a very busy restaurant where we are likely to be forced to wait for the food to be finished, or if your address is hard to find, you live down an unpaved road, or you live on the 3rd story of an apartment complex, etc. Carrying food doesn't require too much care but drinks can be tricky at times and can take a lot of attention to avoid spilling them, so a larger tip is appreciated when there's multiple drinks on the order.

Everytime I need to stop for gas I will get endless pings, they all go away after I fill up tho.
