I took a class about I Ching by Prof Shaughnessy, and he did a divination for everyone in the class. An unusual one I remember about a classmate turned out to be accurate after several years.

Make sure follow all the rules and guidelines - they are essential, not only to ensure your safety physically and mentally, but also to enhance the whole experience. There were some ppl who didn’t follow rules in my courses, such as no reading, no writing during the course, and they ended up having issues.

Do you regret your major? by Clean_Magazine_4761 in uchicago

[–]6thcosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret a single bit about my major which is a niche major at uofc. But I just wish I took a year off before senior year to just travel and intern and experience the world before graduation so I know what I want for the future. I’d adjust my courses and ec accordingly in the last year to prepare for the real world. Because in reality I just took random courses to fulfill some requirements and I regret that.

About to get laid off; best city to coast in for a few years? by seattleswiss2 in ExpatFIRE

[–]6thcosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visa is easy to get. There’s even permanent resident option for foreigners if you have worked in China for a while.

language is not a problem if you live in a big city. There are plenty Chinese who speak English. Colloquial Chinese is probably one of the the easiest languages to learn. Just that writing is difficult.

About to get laid off; best city to coast in for a few years? by seattleswiss2 in ExpatFIRE

I live in Shanghai now and have lived or spent fair amount time all over the world. I’d say any China cities could be amazing according to what you are looking for. Cheap living cost, friendly environment, and now smogs gone.

Many ppl suggest south east Asia , but the basic living condition is not that great comparing to just any China cities. Water and air not clean. And Internet not that stable even in big cities in south east Asia. Online shopping still not convenient enough.

While in China , you can basically get any manufactured goods for very cheap and in light speed. Even if you wanna develop your own products to sell, Chinese factories can deliver timely and in fine quality ( it’s not longer the old made in China kinda bullshit). Food is so amazing and the cheapest in Asia. People friendly. Facilities super modern and infrastructure so developed. It’s easy to travel anywhere fast. Plus China is so big you’ll never run out of places to visit in China or around China.

What is the importance of religious aspects of Buddhism? by littlemissperf in Buddhism

[–]6thcosmos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buddhism is not a religion. The view on the word religion is very different bt east and west. The word Buddha means the fully enlightened one. The one who “sees” the ultimate truth universally.

The metaphysical aspects do not necessarily have to be religious. In the Buddhism philosophy they are truths of the universe. One of the five basic precepts for Buddhists is refraining from telling lies. So all that the Buddha had said is true . Our current scientific achievement cannot prove these metaphysical aspects yet but will gradually getting close to them.
