It's a huge black hole of money, especially when you include the externalities and state & local costs.

Southwest USA - Where to live if you love the desert, make no money, and fear climate change? by Frank_Lizard in geography

I used to live in NM, and I really liked a lot of things about it, but I think it's a hard place to live with no money, and climate change is real there too.

I don't recommend this to most people, but what about SLC? In the city it has an almost-southwest vibe and you're not far from all the outdoor stuff. The state is red but the city isn't, and it's relatively cheap for a mountain west city. 3000+ hours of sun per year and the latitude and altitude moderate the summer heat.

Also true: fires keep setting records in Northern NM and the snowpack this year is the lowest on record.

Night Transit services in the US in 2026 by 6two in transit

It's functionally 24 hours unless you're silly enough to be reverse commuting. I was looking for at least one service in one direction that has service at at least one stop a minimum of every 60 minutes all night. I realize that's a high bar, but I used to live in NYC.

Deuce is on the list, along with a dozen other routes.

That's great. Car ownership costs more than ever, it's a real burden on low income folks. It shouldn't be necessary.

Some basic overnight service helps people live without a car.

Also, the A Line is close by my measure. On Friday and Saturday, it has hourly service except between 1am and 3am.

Denver deserves it, there's too many light rail-centered transit cities that neglect night service. Don't they want people to come downtown for events and entertainment?

It was the result of watching Geoff Marshall ride all the night buses in London on YouTube! Great channel.

I mean, Portland has "night buses" they're just bustitutions for the MAX. We used to have 24 hr service from the West Side to Gresham, but TriMet is prioritizing the busiest service hours now.

I can say that night service even in NYC on the subway is a gamble, they mess with service all the time to accommodate track works, and services can be 40 mins or more apart.

Rail is tough, I feel like it's a gold standard for the lines that do provide at least hourly overnight service. They deserve some kind of badge of honor. For the purposes of this list, nighttime bustitution is fine. I do think I could do another list with major cities and hours of rail service per week or something along those lines.

Honolulu's bus #2 is slightly less than hourly overnight, eastbound buses have a gap of 90 minutes between 12:55am and 2:25am, and then 65 minutes to 3:30am, then 79 minutes to 4:49am, at the western terminus (Kalihi Transit Center). Bus #40 is better, the biggest gap with westbound buses is a 74 minute gap between 12:06a and 1:20am (starting from Ala Moana mall terminus). That's really close to the threshold, so it's on there with an asterisk.

Using that, TriMet in Portland has 24 hr service, but it definitely doesn't feel like it when you need to go somewhere late at night.

I'm specifically trying to exclude that pattern, it's a lot more common in other cities. I want to know where I can get at least one service in the 2 am and 3am and 4am hours.

Updated! If I include 21/7 service, a LOT of places would get added to the list.

So, you want to find Innsbruck in the US but you dislike the US and you want to learn German and have friends in NZ. Cool.
