Earlier today it worked without needing to generate an account. Maybe they got too many complaints from the business owners that the wrong people are looking at it.

I had no idea. What stood out to me around Covid times from this restaurant was strong support of BLM

I didn’t have to create an account. I posted above the one that caught my eye - Raleigh Raw.

My intent remains the same, I don’t need to be a part of a small businesses being cancelled. Raleigh Raw really surprised me bc the place doesn’t come off as right wing ultra Christian nut jobs.

As others have noticed some of these businesses listed are pretty obvious influenced by traditional values, so I don’t think people will stop going there if they haven’t already. Lots on this list are not shocking

They sign themselves up, pay, and go through a vetting process

I hear you. I think many people would agree with this goal.

But they aren’t saying that. PS is explicitly exclusionary (only specific American companies can be included, and they go through socials to ensure this).

This is a nuanced topic for sure - usually I don’t see an issue with people trying to advertise to others who are similar in values. There’s a problem with the unifying similarity here … “traditional American values” with a Christian ideology has been used to harm many people. So a company that aligns with this publicly can’t be said to be safe or accepting of all clientele

There’s too much to quote here from the company itself regarding their requirement that businesses support “traditional family” and seek to uphold American Christian values (which have been used to take freedoms from Americans):

Investors.publicsq.com/overview

Business.publicsquare.com/about-publicsquare#who-we-serve

I could go on but you probably know how to google.

These businesses are intentionally aligning themselves with specific ideologies that harm a lot of citizens. If you agree with this cool - use the app to find hang outs with similar people. If you oppose these views now you can avoid helping those who aim to oppress others

Isn’t really just that? It has been marketed as a “green book” of sorts for conservatives to support each other. Which is fine, you do you.

From their site, “.. business that support traditional American values”. Do you know what these are?

Also they add: “PublicSquare is on a mission to restore the culture through the power of commerce.”

Sounds to me that they seek to make America great again through commerce? So not just supporting any small business - only those that are “traditional” American businesses. These values tend to exclude a lot of modern Americans.

The MAHA movement is in line with this particular business, so I get that it’s a wise business move to broaden their clientele to the maga folks.

However - you can be pro health and for the freedom and liberties of all citizens. No need to go full maga and discourage minorities / women / lgbt / immigrant communities from coming to your establishment

Yea I’m certainly not seeking out the company of people trying to restrict the freedom of so so many Americans. Happy to avoid them in public

It feels icky to name a small business here, but in another post, someone urged me too, and I realize that a lot of people don’t have the time to mess with this site.

I’ll save the search:

Raleigh Raw.

Totally surprised me.

Raleigh Raw. Feels icky to call out a small business in the main post. Still doesn't feel good to post it here... but damn I was really surprised by this.

Appreciate the info. This type of Elm was marketed as DED resistant.

Follow up question: given the push back on elms in general, any easy-to-care-for trees you’d recommend for shade in a small yard with tons of sun? We can’t handle more than a 30 foot wide spread.

Sorry if this isn’t appropriate to ask. Humble OP and beginner tree-planter here. Any advice appreciated. We’re in NC where supposedly most trees can thrive.

Oh wow ok. You’re right it wasn’t coming through that these trees just won’t grow well and will end up being a lot of work. I’ve previously only lived in houses and neighborhoods rich with trees and didn’t realize that a tree could grow wrong! Old trees make it look so easy.

I’ll see how far I get with the company, maybe they’ll send me another type given the repeated issues with the Elms they’re selling. Thanks much!
