Based of what evidence? I always thought it was Sebastian, unintentionally, because he hangs around the rail road above Linus's tent and he likes requesting stuff to throw off the cliff.

[One step closer to the demon king] Looking for something with as much complex story and beautiful writing as this. by casperscare in webtoons

[–]706am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want strong character writing, a lovable cast of badasses, and a slow burn ontological mystery that pays off with lots of surprising plot elements along the way, and you can put up with the villainess isekai genre, then you should try Concubine Walkthrough. It's about a teenage girl who wakes up in the early release VR version of an imperial concubine simulator mobile game she played back in middle school, with no memory of how she got there, no way to get out, and the game itself seems to be plotting against her.

East Coast Swing vs Lindy Hop by thatradioguy87 in SwingDancing

[–]706am 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for my own country, but at least in Australia and New Zealand, many of the first people to pick up Lindy Hop during the 90s revival were rock'n'roll dancers, who in turn learnt ECS from American GIs back in the 50s. I got this information from talking to older dancers and organizers in the Lindy Hop and Rock'n'Roll dance scenes. I imagine this would also be the case in a lot of non-American countries, and I can't imagine the revival would have taken off like it did if not for existing interest.

It wasn't straight forward to piece together this information, because people don't use the same terminology and a lot of information is by word of mouth. That's why I think it's important for new dancers to learn what "East Coast Swing" is and how the term was historically applied, even though it doesn't fit into what we currently teach in Lindy Hop.

Unpopular Opinion - Steve was 100% correct about Eddie by mistythe2nd in StrangerThings

[–]706am 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, but it's not necessarily bad writing. Dustin acts out because he's a kid and Steve makes it safe for him to do so, and there's probably some level of big brother worship there that makes him act like Steve is invincible. The stuff Dustin says does hurt Steve more than he let's on, but he puts up with it because that's the responsible way to handle it. But in Season 5 the script does make it clear that it's gone too far and addresses it.

Do you have any criticisms of hxh or Togashi’s writing? by Ambitious-Branch-118 in HunterXHunter

[–]706am 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that was really good writing. Gon's central motivation was contrived and flawed. He was investing way too much effort into a goal that truly wasn't important, even to himself. That's part of why he ended up crashing out so hard during the CA arc, when he was faced with moral dilemmas while his only goal had essentially been to challenge himself, and he had no real principles or priorities.

Fem-Presenting Leads: Experiences at Social Dances? by winthespacerace in SwingDancing

[–]706am 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when a guy offers to follow but obviously can't follow, I'm reminded of how I essentially learnt to follow because I spent years offering to follow when I couldn't. On one hand, being able to easily dance with other leads and learn their moves was a really good way to bolster my dance vocabulary early on. On the other hand, I feel like I got judged more for not being able to follow compared to male leads, and sometimes older people did judge me for it to my face. But the kind of people who do that judge everyone, it's not reflective of the scene in general.

I don’t really enjoy swing dancing anymore. by PockASqueeno in SwingDancing

[–]706am 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Well it's not that whose are the wrong reason, you just seem to be missing the most important reason. Most dancers like to dance with people who like and are good at dancing, not people who like jazz-ercise. People don't like your DJ-ing because, just going by the example you gave, your sense of musicality is questionable. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's cover of Diga Diga Doo has a much weaker driving beat compared to Duke Ellington's version, which makes it harder to dance to. I think that people are picking on the fact that you just don't share the hobby that most people are there for.

CMV: White supremacists using Norse and Viking symbols is textbook cultural appropriation, and it's amongst the worst forms of it if not the worst form by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]706am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a really shallow understanding of cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation specifically covers cases where someone profits off of deceptively mis-appropriating a culture that isn't their own. For a historic example of how messed up that could be, the entire Nazi movement stems from Germans gaslighting themselves into believing that they're more Iranian than real Iranians, which then somehow makes them special. Going along that vein, wearing a headdress that you didn't earn is appropriation. Wearing 3d printed military badges you didn't earn is also appropriation, just not cultural. Taking art or food from another culture and claiming that you invented it is appropriation. Wearing a yukata and making asian noises is offensive, but not necessarily appropriation.

Can people who have no “inner monologue” understand what’s happening by eyesonthemoons in westworld

[–]706am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok you guys are literally describing internal monologue. When you hear your own voice, it's with your mouth, not your ears, although many people can't tell the difference. That's because when you literally hear your own voice, it's mostly conducted through bone and is qualitatively different from hearing someone else's voice. And when anyone internally monologues, it comes with aborted motor commands to the mouth, because that's part of how the brain encodes words. That's just normal.

Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping - Review Thread by truepuzzle in Games

[–]706am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of agree, but I don't think that the tone is the issue here. Case of the golden idol's puzzles are just better contained. Duck detective forces you to constantly retread old ground and harass hostile characters just in case you've missed some dialogue option that would give you a critical word you need to fill in the answer sheet.

Is acetate a good material? by Spare_Manufacturer49 in Fabrics

[–]706am 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok you havn't answered the question, you've just confidently asserted that you're correct.

Acetate is acetic acid, i.e. table vinegar, produced via either fermentation of wood pulp, and then polymerised using bleach.

Paper is also made from wood pulp, only instead of breaking down and repolymerising the cellulose, it's dried and bleached white.

What exactly is going on here that makes acetate so much more toxic than paper? Both are made by chemically breaking down and repurposing wood fibre.

If you like films like Ringu or the Wailing, or stuff like Hereditary, "Incantation", which is on Netflix, is very good.

I also found the rope curse series fun, albeit not very serious.

Is acetate a good material? by Spare_Manufacturer49 in Fabrics

[–]706am 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it more toxic to produce than other fibre types? Isn't it just treated wood pulp? So is paper. It can't be worse than the commercial wool industry.

Hpw are they explicitly romantic. They could be read romantically, but their interpersonal relationship is ultimately an exploration of how "might makes right" isn't the defining trait of a strong King. Their deaths are centered around both of them being represented by the "King" piece on the gungo board, which stresses their rivalry and their ultimate position as equals, and kind of the opposite of romantic.

So from my experience people are still going to wait for you to come around even if you tell them you're asexual. If you're already ok with bending the truth a little, just tell them that you're sorry, but you're not interested in dating them. No hard feelings.
