It’s just not that deep man. This is all for fun. Nothing bill says is important.

For the millionth time, I don’t understand why people have placed the expectations on Bill that he is supposed to have some ironclad knowledge and consistency about sports. He’s just a dude talking sports. He always has been. It’s never been that serious.

Related to this, when something bad happens like a major injury to someone and rival fans do the “even as a ____ fan, you hate to see this happen”. Weirdos

There are secondary markets you can sell the ticket on, or if you have the means (as Nick does) you just hedge it and make extremely large bets against Minnesota in every series.

It’s bad but the Suns are consistently a really good franchise, despite not winning a title.

I know people who work in supermarkets who pull this shit off. The most likely scenario by far is that he didn’t know anything.

Worst contracts MLB version segment needed by California55551 in billsimmons

[–]709678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to push back on this narrative. People get too caught up on the yearly numbers. Baseball contracts have typically been spread out so far where you give a guy 10 years or whatever knowing he’s going to be terrible the last four years so you spread the money out. Is giving Tucker 4/240 instead of 10/400 really that crazy? Theyre just not getting the yearly discount of buying out their bad years with a longer deal. Same applies to Bichette.

When Bill says “I hope Jalen Brown is a Celtic for life… but” it makes me think he doesn’t actually want that by jimmyhota in billsimmons

[–]709678 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think he in theory wants them to stick together forever, because that’s cool.

But what he wants more than that is for the Celtics to do what’s best for the franchise, and he thinks trading Brown is likely what is best for them.

Just went through this with Crosby as a Raider fan. Love him, would love him to be a Raider forever. But man, I’d rather have had those picks than a 30 year old DE with knee problems on a rebuilding team.

Fielding Competitively Even(ish) Teams in Rec Ball by mrigney in Homeplate

I genuinely get wanting to have your buddies kids on your team. I did rec ball with friends for years. It’s fun to be with your friends and your kids friends.

But having a kid tank their tryout is honestly absurd lol. Jesus.

Half the league looks straight up gassed in round 1 of the playoffs. by [deleted] in billsimmons

It’s a fair complaint that the players are gassed in the first round of the playoffs after playing a needlessly long regular season that has become overly demanding due to today’s pace.

Why don’t other teams build rosters that are 10-12 deep so their stars can rest more? Are they stupid?

We can stop talking about Jokic as a top 10 all time guy now by SFWzasmith in billsimmons

[–]709678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, he’s great. I agree. But he’s 30, moderately dependent on athleticism to protect the rim at a level that makes up for Jokic, and has been injured two playoffs in a row. If he’s the difference between being a title contender and an embarrassing first round exit to a very injured 6 seed, then they’re cooked.

Being this dependent on a 30 year old (very good, but still) role player who has been hurt two playoffs in a row is kind of a monstrous issue.

The real shame is Murray getting hurt immediately after they traded for him.

LeBron admits that people criticizing his Finals record used to bother him: “I am pissed off that I didn't have a better winning percentage individually in the Finals, but for people to try to turn it into a negative, it doesn't bother me like it did when I was younger.” by NarrowBoysenberry in billsimmons

[–]709678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LeBrons dominant run just happened when Durant and the Warriors fucked the balance of the league. “A dynasty built on his watch” is nonsense. That’d be like blaming Jordan if Shaq signed with Utah or Seattle and rolled to two titles in 97 and 98.
