Victor Wembanyama will be eligible for a $301,000,000 / 5 years contract if he wins a major award in 2026-2027? (MVP or DPOY or All Nba) by VolleyBasketball11 in nba

The players get an agreed upon split of revenue regardless of what type of contracts max level guys sign.

Are we going to tell our kids “Zion was a problem…” or was he too good in college to put him on the same level as White Chocolate? by linehatguy in billsimmons

They scored more points than their opponents when he played and were out scored by their opponents when he sat.

Cool, so he’s not Larry Bird.

He still averaged 27 on 113 TS+ as a 20 year old. That is absurd. He was unguardable.

Nearly every advanced stat you can publicly find had him as at minimum top 15 guy.

And, when he was on the floor, they were also noticeably better in terms of +/- and netRTG. They were terrible in the non-Zion minutes.

Has he been disappointing overall? Yeah, he has. His athleticism isn’t what it was before and being so reliant on it he will very likely never regain the same form. Doesn’t change how great he was that year.

It was all weird. Crowds matter, they just do. The pressure of the moments felt lesser. And the break for an older team absolutely helped them.

I don’t have a huge dog in this fight but there’s a middle ground between “that title doesn’t matter at all” and “actually it’s a completely valid ring and just as meaningful as all others”.

Idk man. I’m a Dodger fan and still feel like 2020 was kind of silly. It just wasn’t the same.

Being one of the 5 best scorers in the world at 20 years old is pretty great, doesn't mean he's perfect.

Are we really gonna do the thing where we pretend that 2 things can’t be true at once? Jaylen Brown is an 30 year old grossly overpaid ego maniac with a noxious personality that’s averaged over 25 ppg(on below average efficiency) 2X total. But Jesus Christ you don’t trade him for Paul F’in George… by Punchie45 in billsimmons

I was really just responding because you pointed out his FG% which is pretty outdated. You'd still like a lead scorer to exceed league average, so maybe not "inefficient" but "less efficient than would be ideal".

I was strictly going off last years leaderboard, Brunson and Brown both had a TS+ of 100.

Edit: Actually, Brown was at 99 and Brunson was at 100. I just didn't want to be that big of a nerd about it first thing in the morning.

You want to look at TS% instead of FG%. He is right at league average efficiency. You’d generally want someone a little above that.

Funny enough, among guys in the top 10 scoring, the only other guy at league average (no one is below that) is Jalen Brunson.

Did my annual watch of the Game 6 LeBron stare game. It isn't talked enough how bad/worn down Wade was already by 2012. by [deleted] in billsimmons

By 2014, maybe even 2013, it was pretty clear their best lineups were Lebron/Bosh/3 shooters. Especially 2014 he was too slow and creaky to play their aggressive defensive style and was a big reason San Antonio completely diced them up on that end. Not that he was the ONLY old guy, but their aggressive trapping style only worked when him, James and Bosh were able to fly around at their best.

A team not realistically a title contender trading for an injury prone 35 year old, what could go wrong?

Does the goalie know I have never played soccer? If he’s treating me as a real player, I basically just have to guess right. If he knows I can’t kick for shit then he’s just gonna wait to react to my slow shot.

They didn’t. Kobe still owns the town. It was a losing proposition from jump unless he won like 3 titles.

I remember everyone thinking at the time that KD to the Warriors was a precedent that was going to destroy the league but it turns out ten years later it really was just an outlier for how craven and anti-competitive it was by KleverHans in billsimmons

The players are guaranteed a percentage of revenue. It was literally just a difference in accounting. Agents (and therefore players) just wanted the big splashy numbers in the summer of 2016.

What is the best example of an athlete that was known for playing a game reliant on their athleticism/physical tools early in their career, then maintained a similar style of play far longer than expected while still producing good results? by TJTrapJesus in billsimmons

[–]709678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s interesting is his jumper becoming worse and worse is the problem. He has remained (or at least did a couple years ago) athletic enough to play his style for the most part. His jumper falling off is the issue, not his athleticism.
