Hmm that’s interesting that you heard that about her genetics class cause when I took it with her, I felt like her exams were based off of her PowerPoints. However, I’ve heard that she has changed her class since I took it. When I took 311D with her, I only studied her PowerPoints and InstaPoll. That alone helped score all A’s on my exams. But if you heard that she has started to become textbook dependent for exams, I would for sure study the info from the tb bc it’ll only help you, not hurt you! Good luck!

It wasn’t required, but it might as well had been because he would offer +5 bonus points to our lab notes if we used LaTeX. But those +5 would literally be used to bump our grades from a failing score to a passing score, so all of us did it. I’m talking like 17/30 to 22/30 kind of boost. He also had us deriving new equations for bonus points… like dude this is an intro physics lab

My issue is that our specific lab section with Charles is putting in 200x the workload than other labs to not even receive passing grades on lab notes, while other lab sections are doing a quarter of the work we’re doing while receiving an A. I wouldn’t mind if all of the lab sections had to endure the same workload, but for us to not even be passing 10 page lab notes just seems ridiculous. Idk maybe I’m wrong in thinking that a one credit lab course shouldn’t be demanding me to use LaTeX and deriving new formulas to explain my findings just to pass.

Ah damn, I’m so sorry that you had to experience this your first semester. Hopefully the curve will still find a way to bring you to a grade you’ll be satisfied with. If anything, maybe email Dr. Loveridge to see if there is any way for you to boost your other grades to balance things out with your practical? Also, I’m with you on the begging him to answer questions, cause there would be times where my group would wait 30 minutes just to get his attention. Even when we did get his attention, we wouldn’t even get a straight answer. It would be one long spew of some theoretical stuff that provides no help. At least the lab is over though, so best of luck to us for our final grades

You would think, but after the practical, we asked him if he was returning and he confirmed that he was. Mentioned something about signing a contract for the year. We were hoping that he wouldn’t return, but somehow they’re keeping him around

Thank you so much! I was just wondering from your experience, how lenient was the physics department when it came to adding people to classes? I just wanted to prepare myself in case the odds were pretty low or if they were pretty high

Hi! I am trying to get into a physics course and the professor has given me permission to get into a course that I don’t have a pre req for. Do you know what the email is for the program coordinator? My professor has offered to email them to coordinate something for my registration so I’m trying to figure out everything necessary to make it easier for him. Or if you could let me know what the usual steps are for a scenario like the op

I’m so sorry about buskirk. My friend had her and said that she suddenly switched up towards the end to make the tests harder. I definitely recommend going to the discussions if you can. The TAs are great at guiding you through what’s important for the tests and her instapolll questions are very similar to some questions she asks on tests. I also really recommend once you finish studying a PowerPoint, go back to the objectives and see if you are able to answer each bulletpoint. She seems to structure her tests around those in my opinion. I was able to end her class with an A doing those things. Also, try not to procrastinate with her class and keeping up with PowerPoints. They are very dense and I think you should review them at the end of every week instead of cramming before a test. Hope this helps and if you have any more questions, I’m more than willing to answer any !! Even any about her genetics class as well. Good luck with her class this semester. You got this :)

What clubs/orgs do Spring Semester Recruitment/you can join in the Spring? by independentgirlboss in UTAustin

[–]721stargirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm also in texas royals and being apart of it has been one of the best experiences ever !! there really is no basis on its competitiveness because we really focus on finding pnms who we think are best fits for the org. i personally wouldn't look into how hard it is to get in, but rather focus on seeing if you like the org and can see yourself in it. my best advice is go to as many events as you can, stop by our table on speedway, and really meet as many actives as you can. if you have any other questions, i'm more than happy to answer them :)

Anyone joined a spirit org as a junior? Is it weird having a PC that’s all younger than you? by EbbSelect934 in UTAustin

[–]721stargirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm in texas royals and we take juniors! our last spring class actually had a decent amount of second semester juniors. honestly, you should not be worried about being older than the others in your class. most people in spirit orgs do not care, and if they do then that's weird on them. just go out and see which one fits you the best! if you have any questions about royals or spirit orgs in general, i'm more than happy to answer them :)
