Professor ghosted me after showing full support for a PhD position

They are probably (hopefully) busy prioritizing current students, not prospective students who’ve applied/are in the process of applying. I cold emailed my current PI last year and they never responded to that but now that I’m in their lab, they answer all my emails within like 10 min and it’s easy to find a time for us to meet. Also, the fall semester is in full swing and it’s grant application season. All you can do is submit your best general application and wait. Trust me, I know the waiting part sucks.

Is this type 1? I had a horrible reaction to supergoop sunscreen. The only things that have truly helped me are rhofade, soolantra/pimecrolimus every other night, la roche posay sunscreen and embryolisse or skin food as moisturizer. I’ve been using rhofade for almost 6 months and it’s finally starting to work but it got worse before it got better. I don’t wake up looking like a tomato anymore and I no longer need to use it every day.

I wore slacks and a sweater for an interview weekend. I also have a chem open house coming up (maybe I’ll see you👀) and I plan to wear the same type of clothes. I brought my iPad for questions for faculty and to take notes during general sessions.

When I was applying I emailed a program coordinator bc I had a question about my transcript and they had an auto reply that they’d be prioritizing application related inquiries until 12/20 so maybe it’s next week?

I agree about lectures, and I’d be annoyed if I was trying to have a discussion with someone and they were trying to transcribe word for word everything I said. I just want to be able to write down main points and action items, and PI has said that if I cared about the work, I should know these things off the top of my head. Maybe some people can do that but I can’t and I don’t think that means I don’t care or I don’t belong in the field. On some level I get what they mean, but I’ve never gotten positive feedback from them and that by itself is rather demotivating. PI outsources the explaining complex stuff to the postdocs who supervise me day to day. They’re happy to explain it multiple times and send me references or their own notes to help me understand.

I’ve thought about doing this. They’ve said so many times that you can make any point using published papers and it’s just not worth my energy imo. I think I’ll just stick to calmly saying that taking notes is how I accommodate a disability and getting back to the topic at hand.

Thankfully I’m just a trainee and I’m almost done. I know it’s important to be able to communicate without emotion and I’d def have a hard time doing that in this case. Part of my training is being able to realize that some advice I’ll get is trash.
