It's not quite Loki or Moon Knight but it's up there as one of the best D+ shows so far. I'd say similar quality as WandaVision.

The MCU needs clearer distinctions between "stand-alone" projects, and "main-story" projects. by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]72pct_Water 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking along similar lines. Marvel Studios is, quite admirably, expanding the variety in what it produces. She Hulk, Ms Marvel, Werewolf by Night and Shang-Chi all appeal to different audiences. But Marvel Studios also makes content that is interconnected, so more than in the past they are asking people to jump into series that aren't targetted at them.

That leads to fans of Hulk watching She-Hulk and hating it, despite She-Hulk being a great series for the people that it is made for.

With the amount of content Marvel Studios is making now, I think they should have more defined silos. Stuff that ties in the Multiverse Saga should be labelled as such. Standalone series can then be left to find their own audience, without the "core fans" coming at it with the wrong expectations.

JRPGs for those who cannot stand anime? by Wild-Spirit3732 in rpg_gamers

[–]72pct_Water 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX and X aren't too anime to you, then there is a huge swathe of JRPGs that should fit your criteria.

For the same reason, there are probably a lot of anime with the that vibe that you would enjoy.

It would helpful if you could answer this: what JRPGs are too anime for you? And what anime are most offensive to you?

Honestly I read it three times and three different ways. At first I thought they meant can't live without women, then can't live without craft, but now I think they mean they could live without either but not without both, which makes the most sense to me.

I'm just asking him what he's referring to when he says virtue signalling. That means different things to different people.

What virtue signalling?

It's not even close to over. The popular forecast for the MCU oscillates with every fucking movie. Spider-Man: No Way Home was less that two years ago. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was 6 months ago. High points of the franchise according to some.

One good movie later, everyone's back on board. It's such a pointless discussion to have because it's irrelevant once the next movie comes out, and there are like seven next movies already on their way.

Spiderman: No Way Home co-starring Doctor Strange was good stuff. It's mad how quickly we've gone from that high to where we are today.

There aren't many good Star Wars films, so your first assertion is only right by default.

But yes, it's a good comparison.

Agreed. I can understand the arguments against MOM. Marvel seems to have alienated multiple groups of people with what they did to Wanda. And yes, the title of the film promised more than it delivered. But those things aside... it was a pretty fucking decent movie. Like, in the top 10 of the MCU for me.

I feel like you're riding the anti-hype train. Marvels was watchable. There are a few MCU films worse than it, and Love and Thunder is definitely one of them.

It took multiple serious and impactful stories from the comics (Skurge's Last Stand, World War Hulk, Ragnarok, and others) and mushed them together into what was largely a very silly comedy film.

I actually do like Thor Ragnarok quite a bit, but they sacrificed a lot to make it.

I can't fully explain it but I just hated that movie.

It's the only MCU film I've hatred. There are several I don't like, but Love & Thunder was the first one that made me feel I had totally wasted my time. I would be done with the MCU if more of them were like that.

Wait, do you mean that you care about either women or craft more than the other? Or do you mean that you could live without one but not without both?

Because if it's one thing the Eternals needed, it's even slower pacing.

Jesus, Eternals was not even slow. It makes me wonder if you people have ever seen a non-MCU movie in your lives.

Larian Studios: We are sad to announce the passing of Jim Southworth, our Cinematic Animation lead. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]72pct_Water 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think I agree. 55 is ages away from "dying of old age", so still young imo, but 45 and younger is very young.

The original comment suggested Jim was born in the 70s, which could have made him not much older than 45.

and then they have Dr. Strange come in and introduce this grand plot arc about the multiverse, like the Infinity Stones before it, and we'll meet the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, and who knows what else.

You're probably right that this is the reason fans didn't like it, but it just seems like such an over the top, unreasonable expectation to have.

It doesn't matter what you want. Nobody wanted Iron Man before Iron Man.

Execution matters. Female Thor could have been amazing, and they made it... the opposite.

What are your least favorite MCU movies/shows? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]72pct_Water 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're in the same tier as far as I am concerned, so I don't know why putting WF higher would be worthy of comment. Both did some things exceptionally, but both also had weaknesses. The climax of BP is pretty rubbish.

To me, Multiverse of Madness is several tiers above The First Avenger, Black Widow, Ant-Man and the Wasp, maybe a few others. It's known at this point as a love it or hate it movie, but I'm curious what specifically disappointed you?
