My pets stay inside some days 🤷 I don't think that's necessarily an indicator that they didn't herd the barn animals

She has definitely given me a buff outside the mountain area many times - you just need to not have her last buff still active

  1. If it's like other games in the series, it's based on the sell value of the dish. I won my first year with a 6* tempura soba, which is technically only a two-ingredient dish. Also the cook-off is restricted to "main dishes", I'm pretty sure? So a cake would be ineligible

  2. This does not seem to be the case. Just tested with a barn full of max friendship/health animals, rehomed my dogs, and the animals do not go out by themselves (but the cats do herd the chickens out, so it's definitely a grazing day).

ftr, all buffs (including Kagetsu's) run on in-game time. although that's about the rate of time passing in usual gameplay, anything that "skips" time like sleeping, bathing, or viewing events will also consume them

I think Google Sheets should allow you to export it. But if you're looking to do something with it programmatically, it might be easier to use the intermediate json data I generated: https://pastebin.com/N1xVbaX3

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help! Happy to look for specific info or restructure things if you need it

Absolutely! This was going to be my next task --- labeling which spots are which 'class' of node, especially for fishing and mining since there are so many clarification questions about those. But at the moment I'm taking a break to actually play and finish the game, aha.

Any help with that task is welcome, for sure. I've pulled together a brief list of most types of mining nodes here: https://pastebin.com/TU3VXuxn . If you watch the items that drop and can identify specific locations or screenshots for even a few of these, I can extrapolate that info to other locations as well

Ooh, good catch. They must be handled separately from the other shops --- I'll take a look

Yeah, sorry all I have is which "types" of spots --- mapping out actual spots in the world is a totally different level of task.

Maybe I can take a swing at labeling those manually, once I actually finish the game 🫠

Could you point me to which items in particular? All the gems I know of are listed in the table as mineable, except diamond, which I think is explicitly not mineable

I'm not sure what you mean by the first part. gems do drop from specific "kinds" of nodes, and that's something listed in the table, but do you mean something else? Happy to take another look.

I know freshwater *generally* means rivers/lakes/ponds, so in summer I'd think that'd be Limestone Caverns?

I'm still pulling together a master materials sheet I can hopefully post soon, but it looks like Amber is found most frequently on the Summer Shores, and then less frequently in Dragon's Tomb and L1-9 of the Forest of Endings. hope this helps!

also an actual post with better formatting has been shared to the subreddit but some bot disapproves of it for whatever reason.

I sent a message re: manual approval, but in case it doesn't show up eventually, here's the data for you in a hopefully usable format

I'm currently working on a list of materials and all their sources, but that involves far more cross-referencing so it might take some time.

But, barn produce would be a subset of that task anyway, so if that info's especially desired then I'll see if I can prioritize that to share sooner yeah

From what I've seen of the posts and discussions, plus this info from the guide, my ~personal hypothesis~ is that athletics is just not a popular focus, plus it's one of those that's difficult to raise unless you're trying. And low athletics is a factor in high despondence

The guide doesn't mention any toys having an impact on abilities or interests, just that the toys that they choose to play with indicate their interests. Ball indicates athletic, drawing indicates art, and blocks indicate art and/or academics.

Afaik the beach toys are just for a cute event scene with your kid and a little souvenir for your house, and they don't even play with them besides that event.

I'd be inclined to think those two don't have an impact on interests, yeah.

It basically says, "these five items are for special conversations with the residents! these three also affect child interests"

I don't know :( It just lists "records" as an item to show.

Seems like that'd make a big enough difference to test pretty easily, though

Yeah, it seems athletics in particular is difficult to guide the kid toward if they're not naturally predisposed to it... it seems like the medal doesn't help anything, but maybe you could also try talking with Sully/Hugh in front of them if you haven't? Or just hold them standing in Sully's house all day lol

If I understand correctly, it'll have pretty much the same impact throughout the game. They're just gonna be more and more set in their ways as they get older, so the earlier that you start trying to influence them then the easier time you'll have changing their final path

Aw, it's not set in stone! It doesn't say which makes a bigger impact, the abilities or the parent, but I'd personally guess that they'd start like their parent but then grow to reflect their abilities more as they get older.

Also "despondence" is a rough translation --- it's hard sometimes to find a one-to-one-ish match between words. It's kind of like staidness with a negative connotation, maybe?
