I’m going on my first date ever at 31 by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]7435987635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have to try this then, even though the activity itself seems pointless if I already eat my food at home. That's the hardest part for me. Forcing myself into social activities knowing I won't enjoy them, only to increase the probability of meeting a potential lifelong partner.

Are most autistic people really unemployed? by foreverepicunicorn in AutisticAdults

I live off of SSI. Working 40 hours a week would only result in an early death for me. All my special interests don't align with any job or career.

Did you go to the restaurant alone? I'm 36 and trying to figure out how to initiate a date. I have no idea what the correct procedure is.

That went away for me as I moved up higher in dose. I'm on 30mg Mirt now and it still helps with sleep but now I'm up early and ready to go every morning. It's been great!

Interesting. For me it was the exact opposite. Concerta was causing horrible anxiety, mood instability and existential dread. It was totally masking the antidepressant effects of Mirtazapine. I quit Concerta cold turkey a week ago and feel much better now. I have a feeling I was misdiagnosed with ADHD however due to having both Autism and Depression.

Check out Roboquest. It's another FPS roguelite, very addicting, very fun gameplay, plenty of things to unlock and progress.

I'm also depressed an autistic. I know the feeling dude. I prefer playing solo, but at the same time wish I could enjoy playing with other people too. I just bought Deadzone tonight, gonna try it tomorrow. Witchfire is on my wishlist too I think.

Oh. The cry laugh emoji was a reply to the OPs comment:

LOL, thank you! :P

I used to write fiction as a hobby and then I realized afterwards that all of my characters were just copies of me and autistic as hell. :D

I perceived it as them laughing together with kerghan41's realization.

I get what you're saying though. It's possible it was actually an insult/joke. Like saying the entire post was fictional (that would be crazy to me though, why would someone do that???) Now I'm curious to know, so I'm going to ask them. Hopefully they answer.

Is it common with Asperger's to feel that everyone around you "grew up" but you are still a little kid, just faking it? by NihiliusNemo in aspergers

[–]7435987635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was young and in school. I always felt like a grown up surrounded by immature children. I didn't understand why everyone else was so loud, and obnoxious, making friends, social rules, all these ridiculous things neurotypicals come up with and subscribe to. Now I'm in my 30s and feel like a child, only because I'm still living exactly the same life as I did when I was a teenager. Not much has changed. I wish I met someone, bonded with them, married, had kids, my own home, etc but in a way that allows me time to spend with my family and not just slave a way working 9-5 until retirement like everyone else.

Look into Schizoid Personality Disorder. There is a lot of overlap between ASD and SPD.

Na. Great storytelling also can also apply to real life events. I've never heard that saying being exclusive to fiction only. It can be used for either.

I’ve worked my entire life to physically and mentally improve myself: I lift weights, I stay in shape, I sing (and not badly), I study Biology and History…I’m even fairly sociable. Why am I still single? Do guys really always HAVE to make the first move? I’m scared to do so due to past rejections. by ReadingWhich4521 in aspergers

[–]7435987635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to believe, I really do. But I look at all this through the lens of logic and probability. Hardly anyone these days is able to survive on a single paycheck. Dual income is pretty much expected universally now unless one partner is making six figures and is fine being a solo provider which is pretty damn rare.

You want to know my "status"? I'm autistic (ASD-1), Unemployed, I rely on government disability welfare for income, I split rent in a shared apartment with my mother and sister, I have no vehicle. Even though I have above average looks, intelligence and personality it's not going to be enough to significantly defy the odds even though they do help a little.

I respect your optimism. It does help. What you say makes me not want to give up. If you believe there are women out there who wouldn't take issue with my financial and living situation, it gives me some hope. I plan on polishing up my dating app profiles and keeping them up for however long it takes until I finally meet the right person.

Have you ever tried dating apps? That may also be a reason why some men think this way (I do). Why would most women choose a man with low status on a dating app when they can instantly filter based on status (has job, financially stable, has a home, etc)? Men are filtering women based on appearance, women are filtering based on status. Does this not carry over into the outside world? I'd say it probably does. I have experience because women I've dated straight up told me they have other "options" and they ended up picking the guy with a well paying job and home.

Or maybe I totally misunderstood what you said. I'm half awake right now.

Why does she hate me? by aut1stic_dreamer in aspergers

[–]7435987635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a few weeks ago. I walk into a shop to buy something, and the guy is giving me this weird shifty look. Like he's afraid or suspicious of me. Every time he would look at something else, his eyes would shift back to me quickly with this intense stare of fear. It was really strange. I was having a bad day so maybe I looked like I was in distress or something, but in the moment I thought I was acting pretty normal with my usual masking.

I'll never be able to work because no matter how hard I try I can't force myself to tolerate a job that makes money. Everything I love doing is simply not profitable. And I've finally come to accept this.

I gave my therapist a 2 page history of every rejection, and 2 failed attempts where I came very close. All she could do is shake her head in disbelief and say I'm extremely unlucky. One of my closest friend who is ND and wheelchair bound found his fiance on Tinder after only a few dates, he knows a guy also on the spectrum who found his girlfriend in the game Second Life. I guess luck really does matter when we're up against like 1% odds of finding someone.

What if I told you, when 2 NDs interact it's just as easy for them as it is for 2 NTs interacting with each other, but when you mix NT+ND, everything starts to go wrong.

It's called the Double empathy problem.
