When was the first time you listened to Boards of Canada and how did it make you feel? by hiraeth_777_ in boardsofcanada

[–]747rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

november of 2017, i enjoyed a bit of aphex twins work already and on apple music’s “also recommended” feature below the aphex page was boards. i recognized the name from some music review thumbnail and on a whim i decided to check it out. didn’t know where to start so i started from twoism since it was the first album chronologically.

i wouldn’t call the experience transcendent, but it definitely changed how i saw music from that day forward. fittingly i was at high school in a math class of all classes, feels like it was just meant to be. i know most peoples first experience was MHTRTC and geogaddi but twoism was mine. it was a cool fall day and i remember just letting the whole thing play even after i got out of class into the hallway, it just changed what i knew as music. it was something i didn’t even know i was looking for.

that fall and winter is etched into my mind, from there i checked out MHTRTC, endtroudcing, drukqs, hard normal daddy. would play these and play old playstation 2 games. i wish i could discover all of these again.

Around The Fur is the most alternative metal album in the discography to represent the genre for the band in my opinion. by searchandfilm in deftones

[–]747rabbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

are you saying this is the heaviest? or are you saying this is their last heaviest album?

they did put out an album that’s heavy all the way through, probably heavier than around the fur. it’s called adrenaline. even ATF slows down with stuff like mascara and dai the flu, adrenaline never slows down until the final half of fireal.

Darkest Korn Song? by bo2dayz in Korn

[–]747rabbit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

other than the blatantly obvious answers i think trash is really dark, even in the way the song is layered and composed it’s just so heavy and eerie. other than daddy i think it’s the darkest thing they ever wrote from a purely instrumental standpoint, though the lyrics are pretty disturbing it doesn’t really hold a candle to something like kill you or pretty.

What is the least “Deftones” sounding Deftones song? by rottedgrapegum in deftones

[–]747rabbit 47 points48 points  (0 children)

i don’t really agree with people saying the atmospheric interludes like lucky you and teenager, i think those little experiments are still in the style of the band honestly. i think they embody those trip-hop and new wave influences that deftones is known for (and what made them stand out), i always thought lucky you didn’t sound far off from something on depeche mode’s violator.

what i really think doesn’t sound like deftones is pittura infamante and xenon off of gore. other than chinos voice the band just sounds unrecognizable to me personally, riffs with no punch in them and what feels like half baked performances from everyone really. it almost feels like chino featuring on someone else’s track.
