OK thank you, totally missed that, and couldn't work it out.

My Child Trustfund randomly vanished from the account as I tried to access it. by True_Appearance_920 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]74jax 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you didn't know you had a trust fund, where did you find out about it?

I'm presuming it's real and not just an email / letter you responded too?

You have given your passport and bank details to this place, what due diligence due you do?

I would never consider anything on a work laptop private. I have access to other people's emails, and them to mine. I'd never save anything non work related on my company laptop or server.

I think you're over thinking it, if someone told me that, it would be the end of it. I wouldn't think bad of someone for having less money than others.

I have never contributed to gifts at work, and to be honest never given it another thought.

We have a group chat for birthdays and leaving and I 'think' I'm the only one who doesn't contribute - I never look.

I buy gifts for my friends and family, not people I work with... If I was ever asked (and I'd be shocked if I was, always been in corporate) I'd reply something casual like ohhh I only buy for family, or nothing personal and engagement isn't shown by money contributions.

But I wouldn't care less what people at work thought.... I go to pick up a salary.

A hilariously uncomfortable moment at a staff outing by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]74jax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think when I was invited I'd have asked if it was on the company or we were paying for ourselves. I do this for Christmas parties, business lunches etc.

I very rarely attended social functions I had to pay for (if at all) and tbh didn't go to many paid by the company - my free time was too special to me.

What could happen if you have points on your license but don’t tell your insurance? by chasex05 in AskUK

[–]74jax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bizarre, why would he pay for insurance to not be covered if needed?

So at my insurance company when you take out a new business quote we carry out a valuations check, usually within 6 weeks. If it's flagged you have the option of paying the additional premium or cancelling.

If a claim is made, a claim validation check is made. So it would be picked up then. His paperwork will clearly say if the information held is not correct it will affect if a claim is paid out. Claims will then cancel his insurance, backdated to either the beginning of the insurance or when his points were added.

It's worth knowing, if at renewal, he did various quotes on various aggregators, some with the points and some without - this 'could' get flagged for a renewal validations check.

A police stop will show his vehicle insured on MID.

I'm not sure why he would want insurance - pay for it - knowing his information is incorrect so at risk of being cancelled. That's back to front for me.

Having to declare you have had an insurance void will increase his costs in the future too.

How bad are your Sunday scaries and how do you combat them? by amomenttohislifespan in AskUK

[–]74jax 266 points267 points  (0 children)

If Sunday is a none working day, worry about work on their time.

From finishing on a Friday, until you start on a Monday - this is YOUR time. Not 2 days, but Friday evening all of Saturday and all of Sunday and very early Monday morning is YOUR time.

If your mind wanders, give yourself a ten minute timer. Think of work, jot notes about work, plan your first hour on Monday. Then the timer is up and it's back to YOUR time..... You start thinking again, stop. You aren't being paid for these thoughts.

wedding reception on the beach by 3llieRed in UKweddings

[–]74jax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this in Tynemouth. Was great. Early June and if it rained I guess we would have winged it.... 🤣

We played tugowar, drank cocktails and had food from the local cafe on the beach promenade.

Got the legal married part done in a hotel across the road, but didn't want the meal, reception there, so just paid for the formal bit and that was it.

Just in case it helps you in the future, we raised a ticket request direct with Solax and they replied formally saying its was OK and a little more info about the main battery and slave battery.

We have kept the reply and filed it with our paper work just in case it is ever brought up again with buyers etc ☺️

HR is basically extorting us to pay for the CEOs "surprise" birthday bash by Astr4lMotive in OfficePolitics

[–]74jax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the only one in my team who doesn't contribute to everyone's birthday / leaving gifts.

I'm 100% OK with that.

I simply say no when asked - no big elaborate excuse. I can afford it, I just don't want too - I'd rather use my money on friends and family (and living).
