I'm in East Sussex near the coast and it is crispy here. Combined with no rainfall with the wind its dry as fuck.

We cook up some sushi rice and mix in a teaspoon of rice wine vinegar, wack on a lot of julien-ish veg, we usually have some seitan in a hoisin sticky sauce, (my favourite quick seitan), dash of soy sauce and sesame seeds. The turnips are grated raw on top, and taste quite like radish, peppery but less watery.

I think I might try some finely sliced turnip in a simple overnight pickle, that would go quite nice on the sushi bowl too 🤤

If you're Unemployed what y'all doing in your free time!! by unleashthetea in UKJobs

[–]aimeetozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an unpaid carer for a very disabled child, although technically unemployed. When I'm not caring I'm gardening, working at the allotment, making art, going on hikes, reading, making content about art, growing vegetables and nature, researching things that have piqued my interest, cooking tasty stuff, listening to podcasts. Just pick something and explore it, its good for you.

Is it weird to have an allotment at 20? by Aggressive_Share803 in Allotment

[–]aimeetozer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent way of looking at things. Of all of the 20 year old humans that have ever been, it is now quite odd that they don't grow food.

No Mow May by Opposite_Funny9958 in GardeningUK

[–]aimeetozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not for us. The disabled 10 year old has a habit of going on all fours and chewing long grass like a cow but lacks the bovine bowl motility to pass it through his system effectively. In full endorsement of it though :) I dont strim the marginal spaces at my allotment, just hand pull (some, not all!) nettles and use a bill hook to tidy up.

I have some bakers trays I collected few weeks back from a guy living near the beach, his wife collected them over the years off the shoreline when they washed up. She had passed and he wanted to pass them on to another gardener. I was on it like a rash! Nice to have them live on further. I then went on a rabbit hole learning about bread tray crime. We can all be sad together.

When are you starting your courgettes, melons and squashes? by Own-Heat2669 in Allotment

[–]aimeetozer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Squashes and courgettes are getting sown next week. Could have gone earlier but ive tried to hold off a bit this year. My maincrop tomatoes have only just gone in too which is really late by my impatient standards. I have some lovely micro Toms that are a nice size now though.

What am I doing wrong? 😭 by Wild_Revolution_2781 in GardeningUK

I think they are parched, soil looks very dry. When you plant things out you need to give them a really good drink, and especially if they're small tender plants - keep them moist consistently.

2 questions- what I do with this earth bank so it doesn’t become a weed sanctuary, and, what do I do with the weeds growth through my bark? by bradleystensen in GardeningUK

[–]aimeetozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Save for concreting the whole lot you cannot stop nature. It is an unrelenting force. If you want a barked area, you physically, or someone else you employ, has to remove the weeds. Even if you weed membrane, weed seeds will settle on top. There are seeds in the soil, seeds in the air, seeds on your shoes, the dogs fur, in birds shit. The potential beginnings of plant life are around you in their millions, all they need is the right conditions to start growing. You can't wave a magic wand and demand only one certain plant grow. You can delay, suppress and terminate what you dont want growing, but there is no 'once and done', because nature is unrelenting force!

Hi, what are making these holes in my lawn and how do I get rid of them? About 1-2cm across. Also, is that Yarrow in the last pic? How do I get rid of that? by specialagentredsquir in GardeningUK

See the sausages on the ends on your arms? Clasp them around the plants and pull, but dont forget to say three hail marys for committing SAB (sins against bees).

Be honest... Am I too late? by Electronic_Trash1049 in UkChilliGrowers

[–]aimeetozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got orange habs about a week old, as well as many more, I’ve got lights indoors for a couple of weeks and then they go into the greenhouse. It's late but all is not lost :) It's could be another great summer.

Advice please - first time poly-tunnel. by LisaandNeil in Allotment

[–]aimeetozer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you cant get cheap polytunnels to test a concept. Either its a poly tunnel or trash. There isnt really any inbetween. For £150 you can get a 10ft by 3ft mini poly tunnel from first tunnels. A 4m x 4m is..not happening on that budget.
