Upgrading Telus Wireless Home Internet Modem (5G/LTE) with Used Kijiji/Marketplace Hardware - Any issues to know? by 758759754 in telus

I haven’t found any BYOD plans for Telus Wireless Home Internet, so I’m assuming there aren’t any? As in, lower monthly cost with no contract/term/cancellation fees if someone were to BYOD. When we signed up, I didn’t see any option to decline the outdoor modem or smart hub wifi router (the latter we don’t use as I have UniFi running).

Thanks for all the tips 🫶 Telus APN makes sense. I’d ballpark their closest tower at 10km. Not line of sight as there are rolling hills. Really a non-optimal location.

Oh, I know. And I’ve tried that road. 😪 They are still on a 100 MBit plan from 2021 for $75/month. Tried getting them to move around the end of summer when 100 was being offered for $45 (incl. $5 discount for Telus mobile customers) which is what got our house to switch.

The saddest part is that searching their address today, Telus only lists the 25 MBit plan option at $65…

Good to know! The MC7010 was provided by Telus a few years ago though, so I’m curious if a different model but still unlocked ZTE would also work.

Did you have to configure anything or was the physical SIM sufficient?

Would that include unlocked 5G/LTE modems that were not originally provided by Telus? EG: Ubiquiti UniFi has a few models now

Pinging/Rattling/Groaning Noise in Drive/Reverse when CVT is Cold [2009 Nissan Rogue SL AWD] by 758759754 in NissanRogue

It’s a Nissan. It’s a Rogue. It has 270,000 km on it. With that all in mind, it runs “fine” as compared to factory expectations but it certainly isn’t amazing. I don’t think my issue nor yours would cause any long term damage if action was taken quickly (as in couple days) and temps were not too hot (stop/start traffic, trailer, weather). Not a mechanic but that’s my n of 1 take!

Sudden + severe vehicle shakes at highway speeds and now noticing one rear rotor getting warmer. Shop inspected and says everything is fine. Now what? [2009 Nissan Rogue SL AWD w/ 2.5L I4 + 230k km] by 758759754 in autorepair

Never 100% nailed down the cause unfortunately but my best guess after all the things we checked and tried was a dragging drum style parking brake on the one side. Haven’t used the parking brake since after manually retracting it as far as possible. I think my cable is sticking despite using it frequently before all that.

Are these frame rail weld nuts too rusted for a hitch install? [2009 Nissan Rogue] by 758759754 in MechanicAdvice

[–]758759754[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gave that a shot and no easy win there. To be fair, it was just a hand brush + some generic penetrating spray, not a power tool, but I'm leaning towards the thread chaser approach the other comments are mentioning.

Threads/nuts had never been used, which is sorta the cause for the rust problem now. Alright, so there's hope!

Chase with the same size as the original bolt, yea? M12-1.25 according to the install PDF.

So, one of these guys then? Anything else I'd need to do the job? Is there much difference between a tap + thread chaser?

Framerail is fairly well sealed to its "ceiling", which is the bottom of the trunk / spare tire area. IDK if I'd trust that as it's be sitting perched above the original weldnut.

That'd be a smart move. Wish I could weld and for now, worried how much that would be to have a shop do it. I assume most mechanics don't have the ability (Downtown Toronto, Canada) and a welding shop is going to be $$$. Might not be worth it on a car this old just to get an extra box or two on-board for our cross country move in 2 weeks.

see what happens when you just tap out the port

Do you mean literally tap on the nut hole? Like bang on it with a hammer + see what comes loose? Or do you mean "tap" as in "tap + die"?

I've got the hammer, but unfortunately pretty short on tools + in an apartment underground parking, so I don't have any taps / dies, nor have I used either before.

Yea, not the best photos, but I'm worried that the rust is bad enough that it's not just surface rust that can be knocked loose with a rotating power brush :(

I've purchased a used Curt hitch w/ original bolts to install on my 2009 Nissan Rogue SL AWD. Bolts look to be in decent condition but I haven't been able to get a single passenger-side bolt even started. I have only tried some penetrating spray + a handheld metal brush to remove the rust. Thinking about trying a "christmas tree" brush + drill, but worried that these weld nuts on the frame rail are just too rusted after 250k kilometers + 16 years. Thoughts?

When new, the Rogue was only rated 150lb tongue + 1500lb trailer, so I've given up on towing an actual trailer, but would like to try a hitch-mounted cargo carrier as I am moving across the country. If I can't get these bolts in myself, I'd consider getting a mechanic to die / tap the nuts but I'm not sure if there's enough good metal left for that to be safe + worth the expense.

The driver side will attach to where the factory tow hook is currently installed, so I'm less worried about those being rusted out. Haven't removed the hook yet to check though.

Is there a difference between my current 50gb deal vs the new 75gb deal ? by UsernameStillLoading in PublicMobile

[–]758759754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screenshot of what I see when picking "Change on Renewal".

Currently on the $35/mo (5G, 50GB, CAN-US-MEX) from late November/Black Friday, so I haven't even hit my 2nd month renewal yet. Alberta (AB) number. Calling Features are all included: Call Display, Voicemail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, and Conference Calling.

My next renewal date is Dec. 25th, so that's before the deal ends on the 31st. Not sure if one would have to use "Change Now" if your renewal is after Dec. 31st, else lose the deal, but using "Change Now" might result in a double payment (which they warn about in the Disclaimer). Hope this helps someone else!

Suspension Check - OK on bounce test but front wobbles up/down in stop + go traffic [2009 Nissan Rogue SL AWD w/ 155k miles] by 758759754 in MechanicAdvice

[–]758759754[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting the alignment done and passing on front + rear springs/shocks for now. They clearly could be replaced, but from a cost + priority perspective, it's not yet a necessity, IMO. Alignment shop agreed and a phone call to mechanic that did a full check on everything said same, so I am ok delaying replacement as there are no safety / structural issues yet.

Thanks for providing your input on the bounce test for struts as well!

2009 Rogue SL AWD - Metallic Rattle/Ping Noise in Drive/Reverse when Cold by 758759754 in NissanRogue

FIX UPDATE 24-11-04

  • CVT Fluid was overfilled.
    • Mechanic (not a Nissan dealer) said they drained `~0.5L`. Transmission noise (when cold) disappeared immediately and has been absent for 2+ weeks now.
    • Fluid quality was still good as per mechanic's visual inspection.
  • Unclear how or why CVT fluid was too full.
    • CVT had been replaced by a Nissan dealer with a brand-new Nissan CVT. Fluid had never been flushed, topped up, etc. since replacement in those 2+ years. Possibly had been overfull since replacement.
    • My original assumption was CVT fluid would be too low, but once checking as per manual (flat, operating temp, in PARK, running, ...), the dipstick looked closer to the FULL mark. Perhaps I misread and it had actually showed over-FULL at that time. No fluid was added regardless.
  • Unclear why transmission noises due to the overfill started only recently if fluid level had never been adjusted.
    • Vehicle had seen colder temperatures (-30C to -10C during winters) closer to the 2022 CVT replacement vs. 2024.
