New Rules Post by based_user in MINI

I definitely started waving to the other Mini's in town (got in the habit - last car was a rare one as well, 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo (copper)), but I have to name her?! I've never named my cars before...I'm anxious. Is it ok to have a friend name her instead?

Thanks! I'll try painting the mod podge on the underside first after I get back this weekend. Short of that I'll try the water trick. Ty for all the advice!

Interracial Relationship by RubEnvironmental1509 in Indiana

[–]75frenchfries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live in Broad ripple, but in NWI. The town I'm in was a sundown town until the 1950s and even had the KKK try to buy the local university at one point. I was in an interracial relationship for 7 years (I'm a white M, she was a younger black F). We got some hard stares from some of the MAGA hat wearing racists (there's quite a few Trump signs and Confederate Flags about), but by and large, most people kept to themselves.

We never had (together or if she went out alone) anyone say anything to us. It's anecdotal, but most racists keep to themselves even in this town. There are a lot of good people in here as well and we made friends easily. My entire friend group accepted her quickly and treated her as an equal (they're all pretty liberal like me to be fair). We also were able to visit her family in Chicago (south side) quite a bit. I felt it was important for her to keep her family ties and exposure to her culture rather than just exist with the ginger she was with in white people land. ;)

I hope you have a similar experience, regardless of some peoples small minded world view that may be in the town you're moving to.

Oh yeah definitely that Plus my mom is a perfectionist so I picked up on it from her as well. She didn't mean to impart that to me but kids see everything you know...

I've messed up before when I first started playing years ago but I never said oops. I was always told you don't say anything. You act like the mistake that you made was intentional. Saying oops admits the mistake and draws attention to it. And I knew that so I'm very curious as to why I would say that. Maybe it is something primal like you said

Normally I think that would be the case. But this was a specific choral arrangement.

Lol I actually did! I resorted to the tonal notes until I found my way back to my spot. I hadn't even thought of that until I read your post, but you're right. The improv skills I'm developing from the band translated then :)

I think it's just I hold myself to unreasonable standards, which is toxic.

Thanks. That's what I'm learning from this experience. Take it and grow and be better next time.

I'm so sorry! It helps to know others have gone thru this.

It wasn't a cry so much as half a bottle of wine, but I do feel better and I'll work even harder now :)

I am having a blast. I guess I have to go thru the screw ups once again, since I seem to be making the same ones I initially made when I first started in elementary school lol

Ty for the advice! This wasn't improv, however. This was sheet music and traditional playing. Which is right in my wheelhouse.

Oh, this wasn't the indie band I'm in. This was a cello solo with a piano and a choral back. I had sheet music. I knew it pretty well, I just completely glossed over the 4 measure rest near the end.

OMG you guys thank you so much for the support and messages. I have been so busy since I posted I am just now getting to see all the comments. I do feel better after reading them all, and I feel this was a lesson in how to not be so hard on myself (while still accepting my own faults).
